Naois stood stiffly beside his sleeping wife, though his smiled softly. For once, she hadn't needed any nudging about taking rest, which pleased him to no end. His eyes narrowed when he saw a small group being transported straight into sickbay and he strode out to meet them.
"You, bed," he snapped at Peter, pointing to a vacant biobed, his keen senses already having picked up on his less than perfect shape. He knelt on the floor beside Mel and Kenji, his tricorder already activated. "And who is this youngster?" he asked gently, as he held the tricorder over the boy's body, taking brief readings. He looked up to meet Melanie's gaze. "Get him on a bed," he suggested mildly, "I shall go wake Valeia."
With long strides, he walked back to the office, nudging his wife. "Valeia, you have patients," he said, his voice urging. "Peter is back too, he does not look too well." That seemed to wake her. "Melanie has her brother and an unknown boy with her, they seem priority. I will have a chat with Peter."
Leaving Valeia to gather herself and tend to her patients, Naois walked back to his younger friend. "What happened?" He tapped the brace on Peter's arm, then gestured for him to take off his shirt. "I thought I gave you that for a reason?"
He actually laughed when the chief ruefully explained what had happened. "Figures," he chuckled as he examined Peter's still bruised ribs. "I am going to retape that for you," he added. He heard Peter hiss under his breath as he removed the old tape and replaced it. "Put your shirt back on, before Valeia sees," he advised, before replacing the brace on his left arm. "Who is the boy?"
"He is the son of the general K'Nara has gone after," Peter replied softly, "he is very frightened, but he seems to respond to Tay and Seleya." He chuckled. "Tay was even a little jealous there. Would you talk to him?"
"I will try. You stay here and do not move until Valeia tells you to, or so help me, I shall sedate you myself. Am I clear?"
"Yes sir," Peter answered amiably. He knew Naois well enough to know he'd do as he said.
Naois nodded, then walked back to the boy. "Hello, my name is Naois. What is your name?" he asked gently, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "I heard you had a good time with Tay and Seleya? Would you tell me about that?"

Mel didn't argue with Naois and lifted Kenji on to a bio bed. Ian who was carrying Tay still unconscious, set her brother down on the one next to him. Kenji didn't release her hand. "Where are we?" he asked gently as she moved to sit next to him and also keep her eye on Tay at the same time.
"This is sickbay," Mel told him. "If someone is hurt, they come here and the doctors and nurses make them better again. Tay hit his head, so he needs to be checked out." The Breen child nodded comprehending. Ian stepping aside to let Valeia scan Tay, put his hand on Mel's shoulder gently.
"Care to fill me in on whats going on?" he asked. Mel smiled at him, before turning back to the Breen.
"Kenji, this is Ian. Hes my fiance. Ian, Peter brought Kenji onboard from the starbase," she told him as Naois approached. "The kids were playing. Peter got stuck." She shrugged. It was all she really knew.
"Hello, my name is Naois. What is your name?" he asked gently, sitting down on the edge of the bed. "I heard you had a good time with Tay and Seleya? Would you tell me about that?"
Kenji shot Mel a look, his hand tightening further. "Its okay sweetheart. Naois is a friend." She turned to Ian. "I think I better stay with him for the moment."
"Kenji," the child pointed at himself. "We played. Me, Tay and Seleya."
"What did you play?" the vulcanoid asked.
"Built a house. A big house but then they were silly and it got knocked over."
"Silly?" Naois asked. Mel supressed a small smile as the Breen went on to explain about Tay and Seleya's fight about snacks. Her mother arrived, having been alerted Tay was in sickbay and Mel thanked Ian silently as he went to calm Lorena down.
When the counselor had managed to coax Kenji to talk about playing hide and seek, Mel could see Naois was cottening on to what had happened. The child had had a flashback to a or several tramatic events involving his father. Mel had pieced that much together.
"You won't send me back to my daddy will you?" he asked trembling.
"No," Mel answered immediatly squeezing his hand.
"The Federation will grant you asylum and keep you safe," Tays groggy voice filtered over to them, making nearly everyone jump as they had not realised he was awake. Mel looked at him in wonder. How her brother could go from building block houses one minute to using words most 7 year olds did not comprehend the next astounded her. Valeia shot into action shushing her brother as she continued treatment. Lorena was now looking far more relaxed.
<Valeia>
"Thats right," Mel responded. Naois looked equally as puzzled at Tays declaration but it passed quickly as he refocused back on the Breen.
"We do need you to tell us everything you can about your father, Kenji. So that we can keep you safe," Ian said. He already had a PADD out recording. Mel nodded gently urging Kenji on.
"He's called Kiz Hiroto and is the owner of a mine. Its in the Elgebar system. But its not just a mine. Theres lots of different aliens there, underground. They come but never leave. I don't want to go back there."
"Can you keep my mother safe too?" the Breen child suddenly asked.
Mel felt her heart tug. This just got worse and worse. "Do you know where she is?"
"We tryed to run away but Daddy sent the fuzzy aliens after us and then the other aliens - like the one who brought me to the starbase attacked and they took me," he answered.
"Klingons?" Mel asked. Ian showed Kenji a picture on the PADD and he nodded.
"The Klingon lady ordered her ship to leave straight away, so the fuzzy aliens still had my mother. They will have returned her to my father. They are working for him."
"Kenji, can you tell us more about the fuzzy aliens?" Ian asked.
"Erm they had ears and tails and scary claws. Oh and the females don't like the males. The males get shouted at all the time," Kenji said. Mel felt a shudder down her spine. That sounded familiar.
Ian swallowed before showing the boy another picture. Kenji nodded again. "Yes the fuzzy aliens."
"Wahiri," he said.

It never failed to amaze him how much energy a ten year old girl could posses. She went from one ride to the next without pause. He had been watching Chloe for the last week while her mother and Father attended a seminar.
They had used the holo-suite on the Phoenix to visit theme parks on several planets. But they were currently in the Sol system returning two diplomats to Earth, and it was unsure which of the two were more excited at visiting the new rides at Six Flags Mountain on the US Continent.
Marcus had purchased a 'Family' ticket, allowing them full access to all rides, many that Chloe had ridden more than once, never tiring of the thrills.
"This one .. This one next Uncle Marcus." the ten year old said, almost dragging Brahms to a ride she had managed to get him on twice already.
"Tell you what ..." he said, coming to a halt at the kiosk, "You go on this time. I'll sit just over there and watch."
"OK ..." his Goddaughter said, jumping on the end of the queue.
Brahms frowned, some 'feeling' said he was being watched. But when he turned there was no-one eying him with intent. shrugging, he grinned at Chloe as she reached the front of the queue. The ride was massive, Well over two hundred meters at it's highest. With several zero and negative 'G' loops. It was this stomach-grabbing thrill that Chloe loved to feel, and couldn't get enough of, apparently ..
Seating herself in the front carriage, she waved to Brahms excitedly as the ride began ... Marcus was sat under one of the giant loops the ride was famous for, and waited patiently for the ride to reach it for the first time. Several of the seats behind Chloe were empty, or at least Brahms was sure they were when the ride began. But he suddenly caught sight of someone sitting directly behind his Goddaughter. 'That isn't right' he thought, standing to see the ride as it passed round the far side of the park. No, the seat was empty, he was sure, but as they neared the loop he could again see the dark figure, obviously an adult, sitting behind Chloe.
The ride thundered round the massive loop, rising to almost one hundred and sixty meters before plummeting toward the ground. he could see Chloe, eyes wide as excitement grasped her, there was no-one behind her ..
Relaxing, he sat down and waited for her second loop, and moments later the ride was back. this time, he was sure there was someone sat behind the ten year old as the ride rose up the loop, at the apex it began to fall, increasing speed and causing all the occupants to scream .. But he wasn't listening to them, he was looking at the man ! .....
He was looking directly at Brahms as everything seemed to move into slow-motion. His arm slowly moved toward the girl. Then thrust sideways, the twelve inch claws piercing her throat. She screamed in utter terror as the man, thing, grinned in satisfaction. Blood splashed into Brahms' eyes as tears began to fall down his face. He was helpless to do anything to save her ..
He couldn't turn his eyes away as the life drained from his Goddaughter...
SOON !
Falling to his knees in desperation, he sobbed into his hands, then he heard the voice again.
NOT YET ... FIRST... EVERYONE YOU CARE FOR ...
In his coma afflicted mind, Brahms cried uncontrollably ..........

Looking out over San Francisco bay at the sprawling complex of Star fleet Headquarters, Marcus sat at his desk. The view from his office didn't interest him in the slightest.
He had just attended his goddaughters' funeral ...
It was heartrending to watch the small coffin, carried by her Father and uncle. Marcus couldn't have stayed for the wake, it would have been too much for him at the moment.
" ...... Sir ?" the Lieutenant said again.
He looked round. He hadn't noticed his secretary enter the office.
"What is it Lieutenant ?"
"Admiral. There's a gentleman here ... He insists on talking to you." she said.
"Tell him I'm not available Jenny." Brahms said, turning back to the windows.
"I did Sir." she said, looking upset at the prospect of disturbing her boss at a time like this, "But he insis ......"
"Admiral Brahms ......" the man said quietly from the doorway, "How are the dreams ?"
The room was completely silent as Brahms turned to face the man .. He was old, very old, Brahms figured he must be close to one hundred, but that wasn't what caught his attention .. It was the mans eyes, they were nowhere near one hundred. Marcus couldn't speak. Turmoil was all his mind could see, how could this man know about the dreams, nightmares !
"Shall i have Secur ......"
"No Jenny, that will be all." Brahms interrupted, never taking his eyes off the man who slowly moved into the massive office.
Reluctantly, Jenny left, the door closing behind her. As soon as she sat down, she contacted Security and within minutes two Officers arrived. She instructed them to stay in the outer office should the Admiral require help.
"What do you know about my ... Dreams" Brahms asked, "Who are you ?"
"My name is of no consequence." the old man said, "But if you prefer, you may call me Ronnox."
"My dreams. Are you the one causing them ?" Brahms asked, loosing all patience as the anger built within him.
The man smiled, moving toward the windows and seemingly taking in the view. Marcus glanced at the draw to his left. It contained a phaser and he was sorely tempted to ram it under the throat of Ronnox and force the information out of him. But he somehow thought it would be a futile act as he watched the man casually move to the desk.
"I asked how are the dreams Admiral ... Not out of pity, but concern, for your wellbeing. Someone, or something, is manipulating you. They want you to loose your mind before they reveal themselves to you."
"I watched my Goddaughter buried today." Marcus said, tears forming in his eyes, "It felt anything but a dream .... Who is doing this to me ?"
"I cannot tell you that. It is something you must discover for yourself. the 'nightmares' as you call them, are going to get worse. They have found a way to your subconscious, and intend to drive you to the brink of total madness."
Brahms frowned. The sky outside had darkened considerably, which wasn't right. Earth's climate controlled atmosphere wouldn't do that. He turned to speak to Ronnox when he heard a terrifying, bone-chilling scream from the outer office .. The door opened and Jenny, or what used to be Jenny, was flung into his office. she was ripped almost in two, her viscera spreading out onto the carpet ... Almost in total shock, he looked at Ronnox, who was grinning, on the verge of outright laughter ...
Then he heard the voice again.
SOON ADMIRAL ... VERY SOON NOW ...
Marcus looked at the torn, destroyed body laying before him, and this time thankfully, felt the darkness engulf him ..........
