K'Nara happily wondered round the house enjoying the company and very proud of her nephew.
She grabbed a plate of food, not too much of it moving as she was aware the condition of the person she was about to sit next to may be alittle green at the moment.
"How did you enjoy the ceremony?" she said sitting down next to Harley. Opposite Horn was quietly examining the Bat'leth he had been presented with.

“Firstly in symbolism of the bravery and honor you displayed in surviving your ordeal. Secondly my Aunt K’Nara has informed me that you are improving in Klingon techniques and as such will be requiring one of these.”
Peter glanced up at both Klingons in surprise and awe. He slowly got to his feet, on his own accord, and faced them both while accepting the bat'leth with great reverence. He wanted to say something, but he didn't know what. After a long silence, he finally settled on a simple 'thank you', though he could see that both Klingons knew he felt deeply honoured.
Holding the weapon tightly with his healthy hand, he sat back down again, this time accepting the aid of his Klingon doctor. He stared at the brand new weapon in amazement, and he knew that this weapon would be treasured forever. It was unique and obviously specially made.
A little later
"How did you enjoy the ceremony?" she said sitting down next to Harley. Opposite Horn was quietly examining the Bat'leth he had been presented with.
Harley was picking at her own food, and cutting Peter's in smaller pieces after making sure it was safe for him to consume. She stole a glance at what the first officer was having and quickly averted her eyes. "I didn't understand much of it," she confessed, "I'm afraid I don't speak Klingon very well."
Then she smiled and nodded towards Seleya, who had mysteriously turned up during the ceremony. "Seleya seems to enjoy herself with her new Klingon friend though," she admitted, "language doesn't seem to be a barrier in young people. Oh! That reminds me..please excuse me for a second."
Harley tapped her combadge. "Harley to Cadet Parker, could you please come to the Great Hall? I believe we've got something here that you lost..."
(Parker)
While Harley spoke with Parker, Peter took the opportunity to approach K'Nara. "I never properly thanked you for this magnificent gift," he spoke softly, carefully choosing his words, "I do not know what I did to deserve this kind of gift, but it is very much appreciated. I will treasure this Commander Corval, and will use it honourably in battle."
Since some time had passed between the ceremony and the festivities, Peter had called upon Melanie to do something for him, since he couldn't do it himself right now. She had come back earlier carrying a long but small box and now he presented it to K'Nara. "This is our wedding gift to you," he added, "and one for Lieutenant James will be presented later. It is a replica of my Honour Blade, though grafted with your house insignia rather than mine."

"Harley to Cadet Parker, could you please come to the Great Hall? I believe we've got something here that you lost..."
Alex felt her heart sink when she heard Harley’s voice. On one hand she was relieved to know that Seleya was all right but on the other hand she knew that she’d blown it, big time.
“I’ll be right there ma’am.” Alex replied.
Moving as fast as she could with out running Alex rushed through the massive Klingon building. Dreadful thoughts past through her head as she feared the wrath of an angry mother.
Alex stopped at the entrance to the Great Hall; her heart was pounding so fast and so loud that she knew somebody could hear. The nervous Cadet took several deep breaths hoping that it would somehow calm her down, but it wasn’t working.
“Oh my gosh, oh my gosh, oh my gosh.” Alex repeated.
She shook her hands in front of her to try calm herself down, all the while pacing back and forth in front of the front door to the Great Hall.
Peering around the corner Alex spotted Harley and Commander Horn sitting across the room. Alex placed her right two fingers up to her neck to check her pulse, her stomach felt queasy and her legs felt weak. She swore she was going to faint right then and there.
Before she knew it she was taking the first steps inside the Great Hall. One foot in front of the other, everything seemed as if it was in slow motion. The smell of the Klingon food was now adding to her nausea.
“Ma’am. I’m so sorry, it wont happen again.” Alex said sheepishly.

K’Nara thanked Peter for his gift. “I will use it well in battle,” she declared. “Now if you would excuse me my mother is attempting to get my attention.
Horn looked over curiously. K’Nara’s family was non-traditional in a Klingon sense as her family had become part of the house of Corval through a ritual performed by both her father and Dukath many years ago. Although she was counted as Dukaths daughter, she was the biological daughter of Azaram and M’kota, originally of the house of Brekmon
K’Nara’s mother had been briefly introduced to everyone but her role in the house of Corval seemed a small one. All Peter had heard mention was that she helped to rear the younglings. “Mother,” K’Nara greeted her formally.
“Daughter it is time to plan your wedding. How I have waited for this day,” M’Lota replied touching her daughters cheek.
Nodding K’Nara laid a hand on her mothers shoulder returning the affection. “Where is this Connor James?” she asked.
Searching round, K’Nara found her fiance and brought him to the elder Klingon female.
“Connor I wish the wedding to be as traditional as possible. When can your parents arrive? Tradition dictates a Corval wedding takes place within the house. K’Nara will have to learn and recite the History of your females of course.”
K’Nara looked at Connor, with all the effort she had put in with her family to accept her choice of male, Connor’s parents had not been broached as an issue. It dawned on her she was yet to meet them.
“And you, Connor James’s, you will have to endure the Kal’Hyah. I Insist on it. Corval tradition dictates you will perform it in a cave on the edge of the Tundra with your closest males and your Tawi’Yan. Who will be filling that role?”

Connor looked at K'Nara's mother and sighed heavily: "I'll be honest, I haven't spoken to my parents since a few months before I started on the Dark Phoenix. They're either on Earth, Betazed, Delta IV, or Risa. I haven't the vaguest idea which one, so it will take a few days for them to get out here. You may not be too happy with them, as my mother's family may ask that Betazoid traditions be upheld, and I don't think I'd be right in asking everyone to go naked to the wedding."
He sighed, heavily: "Ah, yes. That. Would you believe I haven't thought about that until now. I don't have many close friends and certainly none here. Since that is the case at this point, while I'm tracking down my parents, you may find someone honorable to serve as my tawi'yan."
He smiled, waiting to be dismissed by this woman.

M’Kota listened to what Connor said and then muttered something in Klingonese to K’Nara while pulling a face Connor could not interpret. K’Nara answered back fast; speaking much faster than Connor had heard her in the past. He could not catch what was said. Finally her mother nodded at him.
“Contact your parents. The Kal’Hyah will take a minimum of 4 days. Surely they can make it by the time you are finished. K’Nara will find a suitable party to accompany you. And also sort out a Tawi’Yan,” M’Kota said bowing slightly. “Just ensure you are ready for the ritual Connor James.” With that the female took her leave.
K’Nara looked at her Imzadi. “Go eat, drink, you will need your strength. Leave everything to me.” She kissed him deeply and then sauntered off in the direction of the Captain.
“Sir,” she greeted him. Marcus looked a little pink in the cheeks from the strong blood wine that was making the rounds.
“Ah K’Nara, “ he nodded cheerfully, the alcohol clearly having an effect on him.
“May I have a word?” she asked. He looked annoyed for a brief second at being dragged away from the chief engineer but straightened his tunic and followed her.
“Sir. My family have deemed we can be wed within a week. Ermm Dukath has already spoken with the Admiral and she has said the Phoenix can stay here in order to celebrate it. She’s issued some R&R time for the crew.” K’Nara said.
The Captain nodded. He had expected as much when the head of Corval had insisted on speaking with the Admiral earlier. An official announcement would no doubt come to him after the festivities.
“So what can I do for you K’Nara?” he asked curiously.
“Connor needs a party to go through the Kal’Hyah with him. The brides house traditionally can only submit one person to keep an eye on the proceedings.”
“The Kal’Hyah . . “ Brahms rolled the word round his mouth.
“”Closest translation would be ermmm Batchelor party I think,” K’Nara replied.
“Oh course, of course yes. I’ll organise something, get some of the male officers involved,” Brahms said immediately looking happy at the prospect. Clearly he had no idea how different a Klingon bachelor party was K’Nara mused. She did not go any further into it, the Captain had agreed now.
“Would you consent to be his TawiYan - Best man?” she asked next.
<Brahms>
Happily they walked back as the Captain started reeling some names off happily planning, “well there is me and Quinn. Horns really not in much shape at the moment and he’s allergic to alcohol anyway but I’m sure he won’t mind participating in some respect if he can somehow. . .. I can ask our chief Navigation officer, oh and the counselor. We can make it a senior staff thing,” he muttered as they wandered back to Mel again who was now with Peter and Harley.
“What’s this?” Mel asked curiously.
“We are having a bachelor party for Connor,” Marcus said merrily, “a Kal’Hyah.” Mel nearly spat out her drink, as she knew what this ritual entailed. She managed to swallow and found herself giggling.
“What?” he asked as he realised Peter was staring at him also with one eyebrow arched, as amused as a recovering Vulcan got.
“Several days in a cave doing rituals of deprivation, blood, pain, sacrifice, anguish, and Death. Fascinating,” said.
Brahms mouth dropped.
OCC – Hehe – 4 days fasting together doing an alien ritual – excellent opportunity for you new folk to get to know each other and find you feet before the next mission.
Alex, K’Nara will be having some sort of a hen night too so your not left out chick!!!

“Ma’am. I’m so sorry, it wont happen again.” Alex said sheepishly.
Harley smiled while handing her young daughter to the cadet. "That's quite all right, she's getting at an age where children are starting to become inquisitive. And at the age of nearly two, she's quite inquisitive."
Then the nurse chuckled. "Also seems to be a Horn trait, being too nosey." She shot her husband a quasi annoyed look, who in turn pretended he hadn't seen. "Why don't I come with you, and I'll show you around. Seleya needs a check-up, but so do I." She patted her belly. "And this little one too. I'm eight months pregnant."
(Parker]
Peter cast his CO a funny look, wondering why he was under the impression that he was going to attend a regular bachelor's party.
“Several days in a cave doing rituals of deprivation, blood, pain, sacrifice, anguish, and Death. Fascinating,” Melanie said.
"Indeed," Peter cut in, sounding amused, "however had I been in my usual shape, I would have found it an honor to attend. This ceremony shows a man's character and strength of will. I would have been curious to see how Klingon's act during such a ceremony."
Brahms mouth dropped.
"I am certain they would not ask you to participate in everything," Peter suggested, "however since you have been asked to do this, it might be wise to give it your best?"
Marcus was trying not to look too shocked at the prospect, four days with a bunch of Klingon's didn't seen too good an idea to him .. He'd heard, albeit vaguely, of the tradition, but never even equated it with what 'humans' would call a 'Stag Do' ... Everyone seemed to be waiting for his answer ...
"I'd be .... Honored .. To participate .. Duties on board the Phoenix permitting ..." he said, raising his glass and trying to think of something to get him 'upstairs' ... Melanie came close and whispered ..
"Four days eh Captain." with a grin, though Brahms could see more than amusement in her eyes ...
(D'BrooNi)
While Brahms responded, Peter's gaze fell on Lorian, who came walking by with the Klingon pup in his way. He'd been taking care of young Tundra while Peter was cooped up in sickbay. "Lieutenant Smith," Peter called, drawing the operations officer's attention. As Lorian approached, Peter struggled to his feet.
"I never properly thanked you for saving my life," Peter started, "if you had not found me, and if Connor had not come to your aid, I do not believe I would have survived that ordeal." He looked down at the pup, who seemed thrilled to see him again. Peter nearly fell over when Tundra jumped up and placed her front paws on his shoulders, licking his face in enthusiasm.
~down~ he thought at the pup and she immediately dropped down to all fours. "Has she been behaving?" he asked Lorian, as he sat back down to give his new friend the attention she deserved.

Lorian noticed that everyone was enjoying each others company, but he was more than content being alone with the young pup next to him. She had been a handful, but he enjoyed every moment of it. He didn't know if it was appropiate to bring the young animal with him to the wedding, but when know one objected he decided to bring her along.

He looked down at the pup, who seemed thrilled to see him again. Peter nearly fell over when Tundra jumped up and placed her front paws on his shoulders, licking his face in enthusiasm.
"No thanks at all, Commander, though I hope I never have to do it again," Lorian said smiling. The Klingon wilderness was more than a challenge for him.
"Has she been behaving?" he asked Lorian, as he sat back down to give his new friend the attention she deserved.
"Of course, she is a great companion," Lorian said as he patted her behind the ears," and she has really missed you."

Brahms grinned as he watched the pup dart around it's new master .. Peter was obviously on the mend, it was good to see him smiling, Harley too .. Brahms knew full well that if Peter hadn't been part Vulcan, he'd be dead by now. No-one could have gone through what he did, and live ... There was something that Marcus needed to do. 'Now' he thought, was as good a time as any ... "Peter." he said, "If you and Harley would excuse me for a few moments .. There's something I need to attend to .. Commander Carval .. Mr James .. With me please." he said, moving toward a small side room. Once inside, he picked up a small box from the table, talking to Connor as he did so .. "Mr James .. You have already been notified of your promotion .. I would just like to give you these and say 'Well Done' you more than deserve it." he said, handing Connor the box containing Lieutenant Commander rank insignia.. "Congratulations Commander." "Thank you Commodore." Connor said. Showing his wife-to-be the box. she kissed him on the cheek, and smiled. "Now ....." Brahms continued, picking up a PADD from the desk behind him, There's something else I need to do .. No less pleasant .. I might add." he said, giving K'nara the PADD to read. She was almost stunned at the content .... ~~~~~~~~~~
"For her noteworthy conduct during the mission 'A Klingon Affair' And conducting herself with all the grace and decorum of a Starfleet Officer It has been decided to promote this most promising Officer .. Commander K'nara Carval .. To the rank of Captain, While she serves as Executive Officer to Commodore Brahms"
~~~~~~~~~~ As she read, Marcus picked up a second box. This one contained the rank insignia of a Starfleet Captain ... As K'nara looked up from the PADD, he handed her the suede box ... "Congratulations ... Captain." he said, shaking her hand then bestowing a small kiss on her cheek, much to the puzzlement of Connor ... but as K'nara turned the small box for him to see inside, he too kissed his fiance ... "Thank .. You .. Commodore .. I seem to be at a loss for words ..." Then go get ready for your wedding .. Captain .. Take the Commander with you .. Congratulations .. Both of you and I just want to say I'm proud to have the two of you serving as my Officers." Both K'nara and Connor nodded .. Then smiling, Headed out of the small room .......... < tag : All >
Ian Jax took the PADD that that Cadet Parker offered him. Scrolling through it, he learned more specifically of Commander Horn's condition. It wasn't good. Aside from the physical battering he had endured, there were a number of psychoactive substances in his blood, as well as specific neurochemical stimulators present. The sheer volume of damage would have been enough to kill an ordinary human; that Commander Horn still lived and had a chance at recovery was a remarkable testament to his genetic heritage and his courage in resisting the effects of everything he had undergone.
A complete recovery would be a long and gruesome process. Doctors would be involved, of course, but Jax as well in his role of counselor. He felt that he would need to formulate a treatment plan, and was already correlating ideas in his head when it occurred to him that it was awfully quiet. Looking about, he saw that there were no StarFleet officers around. This perplexed him, and he couldn't readily find a solution. The only one he'd actually met, Alex Parker, was not available to answer his surprise.
Tapping his comm badge, Jax tried to locate the Cadet.
“Yes, of course ma’am.”
Alex took little Seleya by the hand and followed Harley out of the Great Hall. They walked pretty much in silence; Alex didn’t know what to say, and the fact that she was never good at quickly making friends compounded her need for silence.
Alex was in another world when Jax decided to chime in. His voice nearly caused the young cadet to scream in surprise, but she was able to control herself.
“Hi Jax, I think most everybody is in the Great Hall. I’m heading back to the infirmary with Seleya and her mother for an examination.” Alex replied.
Connor muttered softly, looking up from the red glow of the Klingon monitor. Well. He'd found them, mostly through Federation databases. His mother was on USS Gluon, a sister ship of the Dark Phoenix, currently examining the Paulson Nebula for sub-atomic retrophasic radiation. Reading up on it, Connor had found his mother wholly engrossed in her work, just from the way she was writing. It was a love letter to the theory of a close friend - as he'd grown up, he'd understood the idea that they were possibly more than friends, but Connor didn't believe his parents capable of that.
He switched over to where he'd found his father. Ferenginar, serving in an Embassy to the Ferengi Chamber of Commercer and the Nagus. That, too, was interesting. The Ferengi were considering entering into a trade agreement with the Federation, and hs father was one of a team of 6 men who would deal with that.
He just wasn't sure it would be right to interrupt them. He leaned back in the chair in K'Nara's room, sighing heavily: "Well. I know where they are. But I don't think I should even try talking to them. I don't think they can get away." He turned to his intended quietly: "What do you think, dear?"
Jax wasn't at all sure how to proceed. Cadet Parker had imformed him that she believed everyone to be in the Great Hall. He hadn't even met these people, or at the very least briefly. And yet they were to be his new crewmates, and as ship's Counselor, he'd certainly get to know them very well. And he very much liked being a part of things--he was no standoffish person, by any means.
So he left his Padd where it was, and determined where the Great hall was. Walking quickly there, he chanced to meet with Cadet Parker again, this time with a small child and a pregnant woman in tow. He stopped briefly to chat a bit with the cadet, and to introduce himself to the pair.
"Cadet Parker, the Great hall is this way?"
<Parker>
"I see. And is there something going on there that I need to be prepared for?"
<Parker>
"Wedding preparations? Who...I didn't know anything about it..I'm sorry..who are the betrothed, then?"
<Parker>
Jax felt immediately out of place. He hadn't been, as he recalled, invited to a wedding. But then he'd only just arrived, and perhaps everyone had been too busy to make sure he was included. In any event, he was certain that he ought to make an appearance, at the least, out of courtesy.
"Officer James and FO Corval. Interesting. I will certainly, then, go and give to them my best wishes." Jax turned then to the young lady, peeping out from behind the Cadet. "Hello," Jax said brightly. "You're a very lovely young lady. And is this your mother? Are you going to have a new brother or sister soon? I'll bet that's exciting."
<Seleya, Harley>
"It's my pleasure meeting you, Ma'am. Horn. You are Peter's wife? I have come specifically for his care. I am the new ship's Counselor. I have been working on a plan to help your husband recover from his...ahhh...injuries. Perhaps later I could sit with you and discuss these things?"
<Harley>
"I look forward to it then, Mrs Horn. And you, young Seleya, we'll talk more, too. It's a pleasure meeting the both of you."
Jax nodded once, and then resumed his walk to the Great Hall, anxious more than ever to meet Peter Horn and the rest of the Crew.
Harley had left and Quinn, Peter and the Captain seemed in discussion of the impending Klingon Batchelor party. She left them to it, wandering around admiring the architecture of the hall and then went to refill her drink.
A person in Starfleet attire entered looking slightly lost so she smiled at him, presuming her was new crew. She doubted wedding guests from elsewhere could have got there that quickly. The young man wandered over as she picked up a second cup.
“Drink? Mister?” she asked.
<Jax>
“Oh the new counselor of course. We hadn’t been expecting you yet. I’m Melanie D’BrooNi the Chief Engineer,” she introduced herself handing him the blood wine.
“Careful, it has quite a kick,” she advised as he sipped it tentatively. “Come on I’ll introduce you to the Captain.”
Mel led Jax back to the men. “Marcus,” she interrupted softly. “This is Ian Jax, our new counsellor.”
“Ian, Marcus Brahms, Peter Horn and Quinn Dexter.”
K’Nara looked at him. “I think you should give them the option, at least let them know you are to be married and they are invited.”
Connor nodded. She caught his arm before he headed back to the console to begin sending messages. Pressing something hard into his hand, Connor looked down to see a small Klingon blade.
“For the ritual, well the death part. You will need to slaughter a wild animal in the tundra. This is one of my first weapons. I would be honoured if you would take it with you.”
Alex, Harley and Seleya had just about made it half way back to the infirmary when they ran into Ian Jack. He looked as if he was in a hurry to get to the Great Hall but stopped quickly in his hurried pace when he spotted the trio. Ian smiled a half embarrassed smile to the three ladies before speaking.
"Cadet Parker, the Great hall is this way?"
”Yes it is. Just head down there and it’s on your right.” Alex replied, pointing the way with her finger.
"I see. And is there something going on there that I need to be prepared for?"
”I don’t think so.” Alex replied.
“Wedding preparations are going on in the Great Hall.” Harley said, correcting the young cadet.
"Wedding preparations? Who...I didn't know anything about it..I'm sorry..who are the betrothed, then?"
Alex moved off to the side of the hallway giving Ian and Harley the room to speak. She felt so out of place in this new and exciting environment; it made her wonder if she made the right choice after all. She left friends and family back on Earth to travel the stars, study medicine, and meet interesting new races, all of that with people whom she had never met before.
The conversation with Harley seemed brief, even though Alex was trying to do everything in her power to not listen in. Both people started to go their separate ways leaving Alex to hurry and catch up with Harley and Seleya.
The second half of their walk back to the infirmary seemed quit shorter than the first half. Maybe it was because Alex got the chance to chat with Harley about the people on the ship and life in general on a starship.
As they walked into the infirmary Alex instructed both Harley and Seleya to pick out a bed to sit on as they had taught her back on Earth. Remember; be bold, confident, take charge, Alex thought while he collected her medical scanners. Also remembering what they had taught her, Alex went straight for Seleya first taking the tricorder and scanning her head to toe. Nothing blatantly stood out to Alex in the tricorder so she just simply pressed on with her work. She could feel her hand starting to shake as she finished up with Seleya; the easy work was over now it was onto her first adult patient.
“You look nervous.” Harley said.
“Um…kinda.” Alex replied.
“You’ll do fine.” Harley reassured the young cadet.
Alex smiled and tried to stay as calm as she could. Her heart raced with every second that passed, her palms started to sweat and she found herself constantly wiping them off on her pants. Finally after an eternity she finished her scans.
“So?” Harley asked.
“I don’t see any problems, but I’ll have to have the doctor look over the scans to double check.” Alex said hoping that Harley would be satisfied.
“OK, lets go back to the Great Hall then.” Harley said.
“I’ll catch up with you, I just have to label and file these scans.” Alex replied.
“Don’t take too long.” Harley said taking Seleya’s hand.
“I wont.” Alex said, waving bye to Seleya at the same time.
Once Harley and Seleya had left the infirmary Alex backpedaled herself into the corner of the room and slumped to the floor. She held the tricorder in her hands and did the best she could to calm herself down. She prayed that she didn’t miss anything and that the doctor wouldn’t scold her for doing the scans in the first place.
Sianna walked up to the hunched over cadet and knelt down before her. "You ok there?" she asked, startling the young woman. "Relax, I don't bite. We met earlier I think, I'm Doctor Sianna Keller, Dark Phoenix's Medical Hologram. Now, I saw you took some readings of Nurse Horn and her daughter, want me to have a look at them?"
She waited for Parker to hand her tricorder over and quickly skimmed the readings. She adjusted the tricorder slightly to account for the girl's mixed blood and showed it to Parker. "Not bad, "she complimented, "I've adjusted your readings of young Seleya a little. They're only slightly outside the norm now, but not too badly. I assume the counselor's going to have a word with them soon?"
(Parker)
Sianna patted the young cadet on her shoulder. "After all this partying is done, meet me in sickbay on the ship and I'll walk you through the oddballs of this crew, so next time you know who to adjust for. Actually there's only two, soon to be three oddball crewmembers here with the weirdest readings...and you've just met one."
(Parker)
The hologram pulled Alex to her feet. "Now why don't you get back to that party? Try to keep a covert eye on Harley, she's known to overtax herself and she's due in a week or two. All this excitement might just cause her to be premature. And try to keep Peter off his feet as much as possible." Sianna smiled encouragingly. "Enjoy yourself cadet, but don't forget your duties as a doctor. Now, begone with you.....have some fun!"
You are our new counselor?" Suddenly he didn't look all to pleased to meet the newcomer. "Have you talked to my wife yet?"
(Jax)
"Good. I am certain she will want to talk to you soon, about our daughter. And yes we should schedule a few appointments for myself. However..." He held up his hand to silence the new counselor. "we are at a party now. Perhaps you could share with us your ideas on the Klingon variant of a bachelor party. Commodore Marcus has been asked to serve as Commander James' best man, and as such is required to undergo several rituals."
Peter motioned towards his captain and friend. "However he seems to be turning a little green at the very idea." A hint of a smile danced around his mouth as he met Brahms' glare.
"Not bad," she complimented, "I've adjusted your readings of young Seleya a little. They're only slightly outside the norm now, but not too badly. I assume the counselor's going to have a word with them soon?"
“I believe so.” Alex said.
"After all this partying is done, meet me in sickbay on the ship and I'll walk you through the oddballs of this crew, so next time you know who to adjust for. Actually there's only two, soon to be three oddball crewmembers here with the weirdest readings...and you've just met one."
Sianna smiled at the young cadet and lowered her arm down to help Alex back onto her feet. Alex wanted more than anything to just be alone and bask in her self-doubt, but she found something in the eyes of the doctor and couldn’t refuse her outstretched hand.
"Now why don't you get back to that party? Try to keep a covert eye on Harley, she's known to overtax herself and she's due in a week or two. All this excitement might just cause her to be premature. And try to keep Peter off his feet as much as possible." Sianna smiled encouragingly. "Enjoy yourself cadet, but don't forget your duties as a doctor. Now, be gone with you...have some fun!"
A faint smile began to grow on Alex’s face and she now knew these were the baby steps into becoming a member of this crew. Leaving only with a small wave back to Sianna, Alex made her way back to the Great Hall.
Alex almost felt as if she was walking in circles. This was the second time she was heading back to the Great Hall, however this time it wasn’t because she had lost a little girl. Now when Alex entered the Great Hall this time the room seemed to be filled with more people. Scanning the room with her eyes Alex tried as hard as she could to find Ian, the only member of the crew she had spoken to on more than just one occasion. After a couple of laps around the massive room Alex spotted Ian standing with several high-ranking officers. Feeling out of place she kept her distance near the back of the room.
After little difficulty, Jax found the Great Hall. It wasn't difficult because it was the largest structure around, and because as he drew nearer, the sounds of voices filtered out, happy voices as would be expected from those making up a wedding party.
Stepping into the room, Jax scanned for familiar faces, but there were none. He simply had not as yet met any of the crew of the DP, except for Cadet Parker, and he didn't see her in the milling crowd. He decided that he'd head to the drinks bar first, as it would make him appear less at ease, and he really liked joining in revelries whenever the opportunity presented itself.
He noticed as he neared that there was a singularly attractive female Trill watching him. Her mouth was turned up in the corners slightly in a smile of welcome.
“Drink? Mister?” she asked.
"Yes. Yes, I think so. By the way, I'm Ian Jax," he said, bowing slightly in deference to her.
“Oh the new counselor of course. We hadn’t been expecting you yet. I’m Melanie D’BrooNi the Chief Engineer,” she introduced herself handing him the blood wine.
" Melanie. It's a lovely name." Her eyes sparkled. She'd handed him a goblet of blood wine, which he had tasted several times before in his dealings with the Joint Task Force here on Qo'nos. He didn't need the warning she gave, and smiled when she cautioned him.
“Careful, it has quite a kick,” she advised as he sipped it tentatively. “Come on I’ll introduce you to the Captain.”
Mel led Jax back to the men. “Marcus,” she interrupted softly. “This is Ian Jax, our new counsellor.”
“Ian, Marcus Brahms, Peter Horn and Quinn Dexter.”
Jax thought briefly that it would have been nice to have spent more time chatting amiably with Melanie, but realized that there would be time for that, either during the next few days or once they were aboard the ship. For the moment, he had three of the top-ranking officers of the ship to meet.
"Gentlemen," he said, shaking hands with each of them in turn. "It is my pleasure to finally meet all of you."
Peter reached up towards the newcomer, shaking the young man's hand in greeting. "Commander Peter Horn," he repeated Melanie's introduction, "ship's tactical and security chief. You are our new counselor? Have you talked to my wife yet?"
So he finally got to meet Peter Horn. They'd have lots to talk about in the coming weeks, Jax was sure, and he felt a deep pleasure in finally meeting the man. "Only briefly, Sir. My main concern is your own health, and I think that we are going to have to meet soon to discuss a few...uhh...consequences of your recent experiences. And of course, I'll be wanting to talk at some length with Mrs Horn as well."
"Good. I am certain she will want to talk to you soon, about our daughter. And yes we should schedule a few appointments for myself. However..." He held up his hand to silence the new counselor. "we are at a party now. Perhaps you could share with us your ideas on the Klingon variant of a bachelor party. Commodore Marcus has been asked to serve as Commander James' best man, and as such is required to undergo several rituals."
Peter motioned towards his captain and friend. "However he seems to be turning a little green at the very idea." A hint of a smile danced around his mouth as he met Brahms' glare.
Jax couldn't help smiling. Although he had never participated directly in the Kal'Hyah ritual, he knew something of its nature. For those not accustomed to Klingon culture, it seemed barbaric, and could be quite dangerous. However, he was sure that the Commodore was up to it, and that he would receive all support necessary to complete it successfully.
"My envies, Commodore. Four days of free counseling."
The other gentlemen laughed at the remark, but Commodore Brahms didn't look so merry. He did, though, have something to say.
<Brahms>
While Brahms was talking, Jax happened to glance over his shoulder and saw Cadet Parker there, near the back against the wall. She was looking at him, and seemed clearly uncomfortable. Jax made a mental note to go to her as soon as the conversation ended here. Perhaps he could help her with something.
K’Nara looked at him. “I think you should give them the option, at least let them know you are to be married and they are invited.”
Connor sighed and nodded. He knew she was right, but dreaded the idea of seeing his parents again. He kissed her forehead ridges softly and sighed: "I'll do it, I guess. It's annoying, but I'll do it."
She caught his arm before he headed back to the console to begin sending messages. Pressing something hard into his hand, Connor looked down to see a small Klingon blade. “For the ritual, well the death part. You will need to slaughter a wild animal in the tundra. This is one of my first weapons. I would be honoured if you would take it with you.”
Connor smiled: "I'll be as honored as you with it, dearest." He kissed her again and embraced her, placing the blade down on a table as he edged the two of them towards the bed and away from the console. He reached for the lights quickly, hoping K'Nara would go along with the distraction.
Peter watched the exchange between CO and counselor, though he didn't miss the medical cadet watch from a distance. Excusing himself from his present company, he slowly inched his way over to the cadet. "You are very welcome to join them cadet," he said warmly, "you may be a cadet, but you are also part of this crew, and they would very much like to get to know you."
The Vulcanoid waved her towards them. "Join them," he told her, "and get to know them. The counselor seems eager to have a word with you, why not amuse him for a bit? You may get to evaluate eachother." He paused, nodding towards Harley. "Is she well? And our unborn?"
(Alex)
After gaining a satisfying answer, he spotted Sheena from the corner of his eyes and she seemed anxious to have a word with him. "Please excuse me miss Parker," he apologized as he limped away, panting for breath when he finally reached his assistant. "You do know I am officially still not marked fit for duty?" he enquired as he approached her.
Sheena nodded, a worried frown on her face. "Are you all right?" she managed as she reached to support her chief.
Peter nodded stiffly. "As well as I could be under the circumstances," he replied, "my situation is...annoying to say the least. All these doctors fussing over me." He looked down as he heard a happy bark at his side. "And the dog watching over me like a hawk. She is, however, pleasant company."
He patted his new friend on the head and allowed her to lick his hand. Peter leaned heavily on his cane, while still holding his precious bat'leth in the other hand. "Why are you here?" His question was blunt and seemed to put her off.
But only briefly, as anger flared in her eyes and her stance change to one of defiance. "While you were dallying out here, commander," she shot back, "I got some very disturbing news. Lieutenant Commander James seems to have been in contact with his father. However, Starfleet got back to us with some bad news on the man." She thrust a PADD at Peter, slamming it against his sensitive chest. "Read it, I'll be on the bridge if you happen to need me. Good day...sir." The woman stalked away, leaving a stunned chief behind.
Peter limped back to his seat, wheezing for air by the time he got there. It earned him a few concerned glances from his shipmates, but he waved them off. His eyes widened in a mix of horror and annoyance as he read the report Sheena had thrust at him. "Captain," he managed as he was still trying to control his breathing, "you may wish to read this." He handed the report, which entailed bad news on Connor's father, to the commodore.
The Vulcanoid leaned back, pain flickering across his face as he made a wrong move. The news worried him; Sheena reported back that Connor's father had been flagged by Starfleet as a traitor, a man who let himself in with the wrong sort of people. This disturbed him greatly as he had come to form a certain respect for the science chief; a respect he now feared would come crash down on him if this news proved to be true and Connor would know about it.
However, Peter was determined to give the science chief the benefit of the doubt; assuming the man didn't know about his father's shady affairs. "Captain?" he enquired, gazing up at Brahms trying to sense his mood. Blackness danced at the edge of his vision as he tried to do so and he grasped the edge of the table to remain seated.
Post by Marcus Brahms on Mar 15, 2007 14:27:37 GMT
The four days of the 'bachelor party' had gone with only minor problems .. Brahms, not being Klingon, was naturally exempt from some of the more dangerous rituals. Connor though, wasn't so lucky. In fact he'd willingly, almost eagerly taken part ..
Everyone was now back in the Great Hall .. This time, to welcome the males back from their ordeal .. Many Klingon's that hadn't taken part, were slapping both James and Brahms on their backs, congratulating them ..
Marcus had watched as Peter gingerly edged his way back to his chair. He knew better than to offer any help, it would have been refused .. It was now obvious that Horn was annoyed, his conversation with Sheena may well be the cause. Peter handed him a PADD ...
"Captain .. You may wish to read this."
Horn was silent as Brahms' eyes widened at the content of the PADD in front of him .. 'If this information about Connor's father got into the wrong hands ....' he thought, glancing up to make sure no-one was taking an interest in him for the moment.
"Captain ?" Peter said, after several seconds .. Brahms noticed that Horn was grasping the edge of the table to keep from falling back. It wasn't enough .. Unconsciousness won the fight, and Peter fell to the floor .. Brahms instantly knelt next to his friend ..
"Get a Doctor in here .. NOW !" he almost shouted, then gently lifted Peter's head from the floor.
Harley rushed over, along with several Klingon Officers, medic's it seemed .. Harley was almost white with worry ..
"I think he's just passed out Harley .. He's going to be fine in a moment or two." Marcus said, trying to reassure her.
One of the Klingon's used a hypo-spray, as the other two lifted Horn onto a stretcher ..
"Where are you taking him ?" Harley said, as Brahms took her arm gently to edge her out of the way ..
"To the Medical Center Madam .. He will be examined there." the Klingon said, already moving again.
"Go with them if you want to Harley .. Get Doctor Keller there too." Marcus said, trying to ease her worry a little. The Klingon's slowed their pace as Harley took her husbands hand, and walked alongside him ..
As they left, Brahms remembered the PADD .. He glanced at the floor, where he'd put it down, it wasn't there .. Looking round, he saw a Klingon Officer, he had the PADD, and looked as if he'd already started to read it's contents ...
"Ahh .. Thank you." said Brahms, grinning sheepishly and holding out his hand for the PADD, "Ships reports .. Can't misplace those."
The Klingon hesitated before handing back the PADD .. He looked at Brahms, down to the PADD, then back again, before slowly handing it over ...
"Ships reports .. Yes .. I see ...." the Klingon said, holding Brahms' stare for a full thirty seconds, before nodding and moving away ..
It was impossible to tell if he had had time to read the contents .. But one thing was certain, Brahms needed to have this information confirmed as soon as possible ! ..........
K'Nara happily greeted her fiance back from his experience. Neither he nor the captain looked to be in too bad a shape from it.
She allowed him to kiss her before looking at him seriously. "Your mother is arriving this afternoon." In the time he had been away she had responded to his message he had sent and been in contact with K'Nara.
"Dukath has made arrangements for her to have a suite in the main house. I have had no contact from your father."
Connor was exhausted. There was no other way to say it. In a few short days, he'd gone from killing and roasting a targ to getting hopelessly drunk. Now he was back at K'Nara's home and ready to be married. He kissed her gently, and looked at her - she had something up her sleeve.
"Your mother is arriving this afternoon. Dukath has made arrangements for her to have a suite in the main house. I have had no contact from your father."
"My...mother? What? My mother is coming here...Oh, dear...oh no." He just looked at her: "Dear. My mother coming here will be the worst catastrophe that Qo'noS has ever known! Importing tribbles for our wedding would be more sensible than letting her come here."
He just shook his head and looked at her: "I just want you to know, I think this is a bad idea." He neglected to comment on his father. At the moment, he figured it would be better just to keep his mouth shut, rather than say anything that might compromise someone.
Harley sat beside her husband, grateful for the counselor's company. The young Trill had accompanied her to sickbay while they waited for Peter to come to. Doctor Keller, together with the ever present Murtagh, had concluded that Peter had yet again managed to overtax his already strained system, and had now ruled that he was confined to bed for the next few days.
Harley herself had already concluded that attending the rite of ascension was too much for Peter to take, and all this walking around that he'd done had certainly been to much. She knew his nano's were slowly taking part in regenerating his damaged nervous system again, but they were far from fully operational. The electrical torture he'd suffered had disabled many of them, and it had been a miracle he had survived in the first place.
She knew that part of his survival was thanks to the quick action of Lorian Smith and Connor James, and she also knew that Peter understood he owed them his life. Harley had certainly seen an attitude change towards the part-Betazoid science chief and she'd been pleased to note it. However she also knew that his hushed conversation with Brahms just before he had passed out had concerned the science chief, she'd sensed that much from him. Peter was concerned about something and he was trying to keep it under wraps, especially with Sheena being so emotional about it.
Sheena hated her chief, Harley knew, she'd started to hate him more and more since Peter had married Harley after Sheena had turned him down when he came to her during his pon farr. Sighing, Harley looked up at Jax. "Thank you for coming with me," she said, while nodding towards Peter who had stirred for the first time in minutes. She reached towards the Trill, lightly holding his hand for comfort.
Then she suddenly tightened her grip and she moaned, clutching at her abdomen. Just as quickly as it had come up, it passed again. Smiling wanly, she released Ian's hand. "Sorry," she murmured, "false alarm."
However, just that brief agony had caused Peter to wake up and bolt upright, his eyes wide in alarm. Both doctor's hurried to his side and forced him to lay back down. "Lay back down commander," Sianna ordered as she cast a worried glance at Harley, "nothing to be concerned about. You're not to move from this bed, understand?"
Peter glanced up warily, but nodded in agreement. "What about the wedding?" he asked.
"What about it?" Sianna countered, "if you do as I say and stay here we'll see about attending. Now stop worrying that wife of yours, look how pale and frightened she looks!"
Peter looked sideways and noted Harley's frightened expression. Then his gaze locked on Ian, his expression clouding over. He had never really liked counselor, and no matter how friendly and helpful this one was, it made no difference. Yet he was grateful he was supporting Harley and Seyela; they both seemed to like him. "How do you feel?" he whispered, his gaze settling back on Harley, "is it time?"
Harley shook her head. "Not yet," she answered, "very soon, but not yet. You must rest now honey, don't worry about me. I've all the support I need for now but do not worry, I won't let you miss this for the world." She reached for his hand. "I promise."
Peter gazed at Ian again. "Take care of her," he commented, though it almost sounded like an order. Then he lay back and closed his eyes once more. The monitor indicated the exhausted Vulcanoid had fallen asleep.
"My...mother? What? My mother is coming here...Oh, dear...oh no." He just looked at her: "Dear. My mother coming here will be the worst catastrophe that Qo'noS has ever known! Importing tribbles for our wedding would be more sensible than letting her come here."
K’Nara pulled a face of horror at the mention of tribbles. There was no way that there would be any of them at her wedding.
Connor shook his head and looked at her: "I just want you to know, I think this is a bad idea."
K’Nara looked at him very confused. “The House of Corval can face anything, including your mother. Explain why she is going to cause a catastrophe?” she demanded even more curious.
<Connor>
A few hours later the house was in full preparation for the arrival of Mrs James. K’Nara watched amused as Connor seemed to pace around nervously. Other people had cottoned on to the fact he was uncomfortable she could tell. Mel was giving him a worried look and the Captain also seemed to be watching the situation intently almost as though he knew something she didn’t.
“The USS Loxley reports one Mrs James ready to beam down,” someone informed Dukath who was at the head of the hall.
The old Klingon nodded indicting to allow her to beam down. K’Nara held her breath for a moment as an immensely beautiful for an alien, yet bald women materialised in front of them. She heard several of the males in the room; Klingon and alien alike give a sharp gasp. Even Brahms seemed to be stood there with his mouth agape much to the Trills annoyance she noted. Quinn Dexter had a smile on his face she had never seen before mirroring the one on the new counsellors. K’Nara could tell it was trouble.
<Brahms/ Quinn/ Jax>
“Welcome to the House of Corval,” Dukath boomed.
“Thank you,” the lady replied politely. “It is an honor to be here.” She smiled at Dukath. Allowing him to give his usual greeting speech.
Next she looked round and located her son. She walked forward towards him. Connor’s face was unreadable but she could feel through their link he was not enjoying this at all.
“So my only son is getting married. This is one hell of a surprise,” she muttered eyes darting to K’Nara stood behind her fiancé.
They locked eyes, both unsure what to make of the other. She had never met a Deltan before however K’Nara had the feeling she was not going to like her new in-law.
K’Nara looked at him very confused. “The House of Corval can face anything, including your mother. Explain why she is going to cause a catastrophe?” she demanded even more curious.
Connor looked at her: "Well, I can't really say. But, let's put it this way. She's a typical Betazoid mother at times, even worse than a Deltan mom - if she can, she will find a way to ruin our wedding and put her nose where it doesn't belong."
Connor paced, drinking as many cups of coffee as he could, the caffeine keeping him active. He couldn't bear the idea of his parents being here. His mother...a telepathic Deltan. His father was a human. Seeing the idea that the two would be together bothered Connor no end.
"The USS Loxley reports one Mrs. James ready to beam down."
"Oh, no..." He muttered, hearing his mother's voice as she was greeted. She walked over to him and spoke in that condescending way he had hoped to get away from by getting away from home: "So my only son is getting married. This is one hell of a surprise." He looked at her, and locked eyes with her. He was shutting this down right now: "Well, I'm surprised you're even here. I fell in love. I'm getting married. It's my life, not yours. And I'll thank you not to pass judgement."
She looked at him: "Oh, don't worry, sweetie. I won't get in between you and her." She added a telepathic comment, "Even though she's just some alien b***h." His nose flared and he looked at her, speaking: "Mother..."
A glance passed between them and she walks over to K'Nara, a smile on her lips: "So! This is my lovely daughter-in-law to be!"
"You are very welcome to join them cadet," he said warmly, "you may be a cadet, but you are also part of this crew, and they would very much like to get to know you."
Alex nearly fell over when she heard somebody next to her start speaking. She had been off in her own little world making up stories of how everybody had gotten here, who they were and a little bit of personal background information. It was a little game that her mother had taught her when she was young.
"I know." Was all Alex could say at the moment.
The Vulcanoid waved her towards them. "Join them," he told her, "and get to know them. The counselor seems eager to have a word with you, why not amuse him for a bit? You may get to evaluate each other." He paused, nodding towards Harley. "Is she well? And our unborn?"
The question at the end of Peter's sentence put Alex back into doctor mode. She suddenly didn't feel nervous, or scared, but she felt confident and in control of things.
"I had the doctor take a look at my scans and she said everything looks like it's going to be fine." Alex said.
Alex noticed Peter looking across the room before he said, "Please excuse me miss Parker," and politely excused himself from the conversation.
Alex was now standing alone again but this time she felt a little bit more confident about walking into the group of officers. She picked out a small group of people and slowly walked into their conversation, hoping that they wouldn't mind her intrusion.
"Cadet Parker, good to see you again. Are you enjoying yourself? I noticed you standing back by the wall there. I sincerely hope that you aren'y terminally shy." Jax had a sense that, being a Cadet, Parker would be reluctant to join the senior officers, even for a bit of chit-chat. It wasn't so difficult, after all; Jax was only an Ensign, and most of the time hardly thought at all about ranks. He knew he belonged among these people, and moved among them freely.
<Parker>
"Still worried about the children, eh? And Mrs Horn, too, I expect. I'll tell you something, Cadet. I'm going to be spending an inordinate amount of time with all of them, and if you would permit me, I'd like for you to join me as much as confidentiality allows. I'll know them better, you'll know them better, and you and I will come to know each other better. Would that interest you?" Jax winked at Parker, as a way of telling her to just relax.
<Parker>
"Good, then. I'll be up at the infirmary soon, when the Commander goes to rest. I would imagine that Mrs Horn willl follow. What say we crash that little party and make ourselves comfortable?"
<Parker>
Jax smiled. "That makes two of us."
