Naois set down his bag and surveyed the room with the cool gaze only a Vulcan would produce. He was quite adept at fooling anyone about his heritage, even though he did look somewhat of an oddity with his deep blue eyes and his deep reddish-blonde hair. His hair was cut human style and was falling down his scalp in loose, lightly waved hair, covering just the tips of his ears and just not falling into his eyes.
Somewhat uncomfortable with the new surrounding, Naois tugged at the collar of his uniform, his fingers brushing the four pips on the collar of his teal undershirt. Though a captain by rank, and command level by grade he still preferred the colour of his profession: medical and science teal. After all, despite being command grade, he would always remain a counselor by trade.
Carefully sliding his bag aside with his left foot, he stepped further into the sparsely but neatly furnished office. "I would be at home here," he murmured to himself, as he walked over to the brand-new desk. A message was waiting for him from Admiral O'Shasserra, welcoming him to his new office. There was an additional message telling him that two cadets would be waiting for him. And one of them was counselor in training Kirby.
Smiling slightly, a feature that would put most people off as they believed he was Vulcan, he tapped his combadge. "Mercy to Kirby, please report to my office." The one feature that could tip anyone off on his true heritage was his slightly bronzed but green skin that gave a pink-ish underhue due to his human heritage.

While he waited for Kirby to report in, Naois settled down on the soft couch, pulling out the PADD he had been reading while in transit. It was still early on the day and he would have plenty of time to go by the quartermaster and have him shown the way to is new quarters.

As James stepped off the transport he was relieved to be able to stretch his legs at long last, walking to the computer screen in front of him he heard a comm for him =/\= Mercy to Kirby, please report to my office =/\= quickening his step James asked the computer for the location of Mercy’s office. James slowly reading the computer’s display as he tried to memorize the route he would take and then set out to report in.
After getting lost three times he finally found the academy commandant’s office, taking a deep breath to calm himself he pressed the button on the door, james waited a few moment before he heard a male voice say “Enter” James then walked through the door to see a male Vulcan sitting on the coach to one side of the office.
Snapping to attention James spoke “Cadet Kirby, Reporting in as order sir” thankful his bag was in the other hand than the one he was saluting with.

Naois looked up from his computer panel, took a sip from his coffee, then smiled as he invited the young man to sit down at the other end of the desk. "Ah Cadet Kirby, looks like you arrived just in time, does it not? Would you like anything to drink?" He held up his mug, then motioned towards the replicator at the back of his office. "Please, help yourself."
Once Kirby had gotten himself a drink, Naois slid a PADD towards him. "Your assignment. While you are on this base I am going to run you through a scenario for the next two weeks. As you are going to be a counselor, I will be seeing to your training with quite a bit of interest." Again, Naois offered a charming smile. "I am a counselor myself you see. Oh and I do encourage you to subject me to a psychological routine. In fact, I expect you to."
The captain tapped the PADD he had just slid towards the cadet. "Anything you need to know, including about me, is on here. My secretary will now call someone for you to escort you to your quarters. I expect you to meet me back here in two hours. And by then I expect you to drill me, and do not hold back."

Ah Cadet Kirby, looks like you arrived just in time, does it not? Would you like anything to drink?" He held up his mug, then motioned towards the replicator at the back of his office. "Please, help yourself."
James chose to accept the Captain’s offer and ordered a black coffee from the replicator. The transport trip had been long as the warp engine broke down mid way and he had not got much sleep that night trying to help a mother on board with her child.
As the captain began to explain his task James began to worry, he didn’t look forward to the idea of doing a ‘psychological routine’ on a counsellor in case he did something wrong or worse. As Captain Mercy finished James stood and left, “Cadet, I will be taking you to your quarters” James looked round to see a lieutenant standing waiting for him outside the office. “Thank you, sir” following as she showed him the way, speaking to her for a while he got the idea of the layout of the starbase and a few hot areas to visit.
Entering his quarters he thanked the lieutenant for showing him here, then busied himself unpacking and working out what sort of questions he should use. Hoping there might be something in the records that would help him, he brought up the captain’s records. James always found records to be useless in his experience but they do help when you couldn’t think where to start.
As James finished the last question he looked at the time to realise he was already 5 mintutes late, jumping to the door he half ran to the academy commandant’s office hoping that he had not noticed yet. Almost running into several officers rushing, he finally arrived at the office already 20 minutes late, catching his breath he walked into the office prepared for anything.

“I’m sorry sir, I lost track of time” looking very embarrassed for being late, taking the seat in front of the desk he began the evaluation of the captain constantly aware of how he looked so as not to look to nervous or to overwhelming ~doesn’t help the patient if their counsellor shows either emotions while they are working with them, outside is good but never while working~

Naois raised an eyebrow at the latecomer and put his book down. "Better late than never cadet," he answered calmly as he sat back, regarding the cadet with interest. He look flustered and genuinely embarassed. "And as you seem contrite, we shall let it slide...this time. Now, are you ready?"
The captain rose from his seat and walked around towards two comfortable seats, and motioned for Kirby to follow. "What do you believe is the most important factor when, as counselor, you are facing a patient?"
(tag: kirby)
Naois nodded, then sat down and leaned back, sipping his tea quietly. "I believe I gave you an assignment before I sent you off towards your quarters. Are you ready to commence?"
(tag: kirby)
"Very well, proceed cadet. You have a PADD with information to guide you, I assume you have read it. Treat me as you would any other patient, and do not make this too easy on me. A counselor tries to pick his patient apart to get to the bottom of a problem. On my record, you may have noticed something I may have a problem with. I am as of now an uncomfortable patient with a psychological issue. Proceed."

“Well as a counsellor it is best to look open and non hostile, also a counsellor should not be prodding and poking for information. And a good smile never goes amiss” smiling as he added that last part. "I believe I gave you an assignment before I sent you off towards your quarters. Are you ready to commence?" “Yes I am ready sir” stating as confidently as he could.
Putting the Padd down he settled in to the chair and began to ask the initial question he had made while he was in his quarters, “Well captain, how are you feeling today?” ‘Always start with an easy no brainier question to settle your patient in’ was what he had been taught a hundred times. As the captain made his response James was already preparing for his next question, and as time went on James became more comfortable evaluating the captain. James had had to change his questions a couple of times due to the responses the captain gave, but he expected it.
As James began to run out of questions he looked to the captain and wondered if he would believe he had done enough, but James felt he had enough to complete the evaluation so he rounded it off and hoped the captain would not feel he had under achieved. “Ok I believe I am done sir, unless there is anything else you wish to tell me?”

Naois calmly answered any question that was fired at him, though he still felt he was missing something. If Kirby were a new patient, he would also enquire after his background. When the cadet told him he was done, Naois nodded. "Now let me give you an example," he answered as he got up to get himself another cup of coffee.
"Are you comfortable cadet?" he asked over his shoulder as he watched his cup refill with the bitter liquid. "Feel free to settle back in your seat, it is what it is there for. Ah yes, now you look more relaxed." The Vulcan sat back down and set his cup back on the glass table. "How was your journey to Resurrection?"
(Kirby)
"Did you get to say proper good-bye to your family before taking up such a journey?"
(Kirby)
Naois nodded. "Saying goodbye to your parents can be troublesome. Do you have a good relationship with your parents? Any siblings that you might start missing?"
(Kirby)
"That is also good to know. Now your record says that you are studying to become a counselor. What made you choose counseling? Any particular event in your youth that sparked the desire to become a counselor?"
(Kirby)
"And what are your life ambitions? What will you do when confronted with an ethical issue?"
(Kirby)
At last, Naois settled back in his own seat. "See what I mean? You must use your patients answers to questions to gain an insight in his personality. Now, tell me, from your earlier questionaire, what insight did you gain of me?"

The Vulcan sat back down and set his cup back on the glass table. "How was your journey to Resurrection?"
James thought, he usually slept though most trips. “it was quite a boring trip mostly sir” he could not think of what to say “I think I slept though most of it, except the last bit where I got talking to a engineer”
"Did you get to say proper good-bye to your family before taking up such a journey?"
James thought this question was coming “my brother was there to see me off but my parents were unavailable, it was good to see him though he is a few years older than me and has trouble getting away from work” James thought of how it could have gone with his parents “had my parents been there I think the security would have had their hands full”
Naois nodded. "Saying goodbye to your parents can be troublesome. Do you have a good relationship with your parents? Any siblings that you might start missing?"
“my parents have not exactly liked me since my 18th birthday so there is always problems between me and them, my brother is okay he just doesn’t want to get on the bad side of my parents but he said he might be getting a job in this section of space in a few months”
"That is also good to know. Now your record says that you are studying to become a counsellor. What made you choose counselling? Any particular event in your youth that sparked the desire to become a counsellor?"
“I have always helped people around me, and I understand people without them telling me anything. And I am a good listener so the best path in star fleet for me to follow, at least that is what I think” smiling he wondered what was coming next.
"And what are your life ambitions? What will you do when confronted with an ethical issue?"
James was thinking carefully, ambition was hard for him to get “well I would like to captain a ship eventually, but I wouldn’t care if I remained a Lieutenant for the rest of my life. And if I did get offered a position but I had to do something unethical I would report it, I do not care if I do not get anywhere”

"You do not care where you end up?" Naois querried, making a few notes of his own, "is that as a result of reporting an unethical issue, or because you do not care in general? Do you not have any ambitions for yourself?"
He made again a few notes on his PADD. "You have not answered my final questions. You have not told me what insights you have gained from me, using the examples I gave you when I questioned you."
Naois paused, reviewing his notes, before glancing up at Kirby. "I will give you my review of you, when you have given me your evaluation of me. And I want you to give me your best, you will not offend me and it will not cause you to fail any marks. You have to be able to tell your captain the truth, whether it may hurt his or her feelings or not. Now is your chance to practice and learn."

"You do not care where you end up?" Naois querried, making a few notes of his own, "is that as a result of reporting an unethical issue, or because you do not care in general? Do you not have any ambitions for yourself?"[/qoute] “More the second sir, I don’t mind not getting promoted as long as I can help people I just do not care. I know that sounds bad but sometimes a promotion is not necessary” He made again a few notes on his PADD. "You have not answered my final questions. You have not told me what insights you have gained from me, using the examples I gave you when I questioned you." Naois paused, reviewing his notes, before glancing up at Kirby. You have to be able to tell your captain the truth, whether it may hurt his or her feelings or not. Now is your chance to practice and learn." James disliked giving people reports on themselves, because they always disagree with the nasty bits and he would have preferred just writing up a report and handing it to him. Pulling up the notes he had made during the interview he began “Well sir, I got the impression you are happier here in a teaching role than a commanding role, which I could understand. I could tell when I first walked in you do not trust strangers to much, but looking into your history I can see where that came from. You have the confidence to state your mind and question what is given to you, which I am sure some admirals would not like but I see it as a strength for a Captain.” Taking a breath he moved on to parts he was sure would hit a bit. “I noticed when I started talking about you brother you became a bit uptight and I believe this to be normal after reading your notes, but had I not I would have been quite worried as it could interfere with your command should something come up to remind you of him during a dangerous situation, sir” instantly becoming nervous, ‘I hate giving reports’ “that’s about it sir” James looked up to see Naois making a few notes on his Padd, ‘I hope I did well’
