Post by Brahms:
Marcus was enjoying watching Tay as he darted around the bridge of the Loki. Melanie, his sister, seemed more than a little nervous as her brother ran his hands over one panel after the other, grinning widely as the readouts changed at his touch.
"Tay !" she snapped, "Dont touch that !"
"Relax Melanie." said Brahms as he saw Tay frown slightly before touching the panel anyway, Brahms grinned, "He cant do anything, all the systems are either off-line or in self-diagnostic mode."
A duty officer approached the Captain and spoke quietly ..
"Sir. Admiral Kasey is in your ready-room and needs to see you." she said, Brahms nodded and touched Mel's arm.
"Stay as long as you like up here, i'm needed in my office... Happy Birthday Tay." he shouted as he headed for the door.
Tay waved as he headed for the science station.
As Brahms entered, he noticed both Admiral Kasey and a Federation representative he'd seen before on Unification. He was handed a report silently and given a few moments to go through it before Kasey spoke.
"Captain. We need the Loki in space."
"Sir." Brahms said with a slight frown, "There's still final tests to be run on the warp drive."
"Then they will have to be done en-route Marcus." Kasey replied, leaving no room for discussion.
Brahms thought for a second, then touched a control on his desk giving him shipwide comms ...
=^= This is the Captain ... I have just recieved orders requiring the Loki to depart Unification as soon as possible ... Would all Officers and crew that have family or guests on board, please apologise and arrange for their return to the station ... That is all =^=
=^= Communications .. Please contact all crew members not currently on board the Loki .. gGet them back here as soon as possible .. Brahms =^=
=^= Aye Sir =^= ..........
Ok Guys 'n' Gals,
Say your goodbyes and lets get this mission going ok.

Peter looked up from his plate of food and just caught one of his sisters rolling her eyes at the hearing of the captain's rather unmissable message. "Well," he said, as he put down the plate, "it seems that duty calls."
He exchanged a glance with his wife, who just sent him a supportive smile, cradling their daughter. "Perhaps your mother would like to take care of Seleya while we work?" she suggested, "your mother told me that she has several months of leave still out standing."
Peter smiled, this was the first good thought of the entire evening. "Where would I be if I did not have you, my love," he whispered at her, then cast an appealing glance towards his mother.
T'Narha smiled. "I would love to," she answered, "with all of you on assignment, it does get rather lonely at home."
"I will enquire after the possebility straight away," Peter announced, then looked towards Harley again. "Please see my mother to our quarters?" he asked, "I will see Saryn, Kahlan and T'Ral to the airlock." He glanced at his siblings. "I would like to keep you all aboard, but you all have your own lives to attend to. It would be selfish of me to try and keep you here."
Giving his wife a parting kiss, he departed the party with his siblings in tow and said his goodbyes at the airlock. Then he walked towards the bridge, catching the necessary turbolift ride to get there, and approached the captain. "Sir, my mother would like to remain aboard, and care for my daughter. With my duties as first officer, and Harley's work in sickbay we just do not have the time."

Post by D'BrooNi:
Brahms had left for his ready room and feeling safe in the knowledge that her brother couldn’t do anything on the ship, Mel was now happily answering all his questions along with some of the other crewmembers. She had never seen him so inquisitive. “He’ll be in Starfleet too,” her host Leiko, said with a tinkling laugh. Smiling proudly at the idea, Melanie then listened as Brahms made an announcement to the whole ship.
=^= This is the Captain ... I have just received orders requiring the Loki to depart Unification as soon as possible ... Would all Officers and crew that have family or guests on board, please apologise and arrange for their return to the station ... That is all =^=
Tay looked at her stunned. “No. Mel No. We just got here. It’s my birthday party. No don’t want to leave you. He burst into tears as she reached to pull him up into a hug, smiling apologetically at an ensign on the station they were stood at, which suddenly looked rather uncomfortable at a crying little boy on the bridge.
“Sorry,” she muttered as Tay flung his arms around her and buried his head in her shoulder sobbing. She turned to everyone and awkwardly thanked them for all their time and help answering all Tay’s questions before taking him into the turbo lift.
“Mel. Don’t want to go,” Tay sniffed. “I know honey. But when the Captain makes an order, we follow it. That’s Starfleet.”
Tay wiped his eyes before looking at her and in true 5-year-old logic informed her, “It’s silly.” Mel smiled at him. Tay said no more till they reached the party again; everyone was leaving to comply with the announcement. Her mother was thanking everyone and then spotting Mel and a red-faced Tay shook her head smiling slightly. “Come here, “ she said taking her son from Mel and hugging him. “Mum I don’t want to leave!”
“We have to honey,” She put him down again and ushered him into Mel’s quarters saying softly “Now go get your things.” Tay sniffed once more but surprisingly did as he was told. Her mum turned to her. “ I know we don’t have a lot of time but what we were talking about earlier, I never got a chance to talk with the Captain so I will make a formal request to him.”
“It might be awhile before he can get back to you Mum.” Mel said.” I’ve no idea what’s happening but it must be important. We haven’t done all the final warp checks yet.” Lorena looked worried. “Be careful then.” All Mel could do was hug her as Tay appeared again carrying several items, including a chocolate moose. “I’m ready mum.”
Lorena nodded. “Okay. Honey, can you organise for our cases to be transported down to unification from the quarters we were assigned.” Feeling sad Mel nodded. “Right then, “ Lorena said taking some of Tay’s things off him and grabbing his hand. Mel did the same as they headed off to the transporter room.

Brahms came from his ready-room and took his seat on the bridge ... Everyone was quiet, waiting for the order they knew was coming .. To get under way.
"Ensign Ure. Contact Unification and request permission to depart space dock." He told his helm officer...
While Ure was talking to the Dockmaster, Brahms spoke quietly to his First Officer ...
"Peter. Are you sure you wouldn't like to take Harley and Seleya off the Loki .. Extended leave is a given as you are a new father ?"
"No. Thankyou Captain for the concideration, but my place is here. Harley fully understands this, both she and myself are greatfull for you allowing my mother to remain aboard." Horn replied.
"Hey." said Marcus smiling, "You never know when an Admiral could come in handy."...
"Sir, Unification confirms we are clear to leave." said Ure, noticing her two senior officers had fallen silent.
"Clear umbilicals ... Thrusters at station-keeping." said Commander Horn as he took over the Loki's departure...
In one of Unification's observation lounges, everyone slowly quietened as they noticed the Loki floating free of her restraints.
"Maneuvering thrusters .. Bring us about one hundred eighty degrees." said Horn.
"Aye Sir." said Ure nervously.
Inside the vast hanger bay the Loki rotated majestically as the massive outer doors began to open. One or two stars was all that could be seen of outer space through the widening gap.
"Ahead, one quarter impulse." said Horn.
"One quarter impulse Sir." said Ure. The doors moved closer and closer until they were behind the Loki and she was moving into open space.
"Take us out to Ten Thousand kilometres and come to all stop." Brahms ordered.
"Aye Sir." said the helm officer.
At the ordered distance the Loki began to align herself by rotating slowly until the Starbase was on her port side, then came to a complete stop .. New crew-members on the Loki couldn't help but be overawed by the size and beauty of the Starbase
Brahms was quiet for almost a full minute before touching his comms panel.
=^= Bridge to Engineering =^=
=^= Engineering Sir. Lieutenant D'BrooNi =^=
=^= Is everything ready down there Lieutenant ? =^=
=^= Ready as we will ever be Sir ... Warp drive at your request =^=
=^= Thankyou Lieutenant =^=
"Helm .. Set course for Halkan Space, Thaines World."
"Course plotted and input Sir." said Ensign Ure nervously.
"Warp Three ....... Engage !." Brahms ordered.
The U.S.S Loki vanished from Unifications sight as she entered warp and began the journey to Thaines .....
The mission had begun ..........

Mel was surprised to find she was holding her breath as the Loki launched into warp 3. The engine room roared into life but Mel couldn’t shake the feeling that this wasn’t right. She would of much preferred to have got everything finished while they were in port. Finally releasing her breath slowly, she turned round feeling most of her team’s eyes on her.
As usual Charlie piped up first. “So chief. What’s going on?”
“I don’t know,” she answered truthfully. He gave her a look obviously not convinced. “Oh come on chief. What’s happening?” Mel closed her eyes briefly.
“The order to leave so suddenly. You don’t know anything?” another person asked.
Mel shook her head as Charlie still looking at her in disbelief said “really?” Mel made a mental note to speak to someone on handling Charlie. He was rather older than the rest of her staff and stuck in his ways. Plus the constant questioning was beginning to become irritating.
“I know as much as . . . Mel started but was cut off by Horn. =^= All senior officers are required in the conference room immediately. =^=
“Casey. You’re in charge. I don’t know how long I will be but notify me before you start any of the tests,” Mel said heading towards the exit.
A few minutes later having allowed herself to recall a couple of Leiko’s diplomatic memories in the turbo lift, Mel walked into the conference room to see Brahms, Horn, Pharrel, Larraq and Gallen all sat down. There was still no Dexter Mel noted, hoping he was okay.
Taking a seat opposite the doctor and next to Horns left, Mel chanced a glance at the Captain. His face wasn’t giving anything away . . . . .

Dexter was woken by one of the nurses attending him.
"There has just been a call for all senior officers to meet in the conference room, I believe you should be strong enough to go."
"Thank you nurse, I will make my own way there."
Quinn stood up and wavered for a moment, his hand reaching out to the bed to steady himself. His dizzyness soon disappeared and he made his way to the conference room where the others were waiting.
Brahms cleared his throat and said, “We have been issued orders to go to the Thaines colony immediately.”
“Thaines?” Pharrel said softly. “Hasn’t the Federation just finished terra-forming that world?”
“Yes,” Brahms nodded. “The colonist ships on route were attacked and boarded.” There was a hiss as the conference room door opened and Dexter stepped in slowly as everyone digested what the Captain had just said.
“Sorry I’m late Captain. Sickbay has now released me back to duty,” he said. Happy their security officer was back among them, Mel looked him over quickly. She didn’t know what had happened but Dexter looked like he had been through the mill. He was still bruised in places.
Brahms looked for a moment like he was going to send Dexter back to sickbay but didn’t. “Please take a seat Quinn. We are just going over our new orders. We are on route to the Thaines colony on the edge of Halken space.” As Dexter sat next to Mel, she suddenly experienced a flash of memories from Leiko. Conversations between her and her husband, who had worked as an Ambassador when Trill had first joined the Federation.
“Halken,” she said dreamily. “We were part of the original group sent to discuss the set up of the colony.” Mel suddenly flushed as everyone’s eyes were on her. “One of my hosts.” She added speedily. “We discussed the issue with the Halken ensuring there was no previous claims to the planet or any resistance to the idea of the Federation staking a claim.”
“A rather long time ago,” Horn said. Mel thought he looked for a second briefly bemused at her, even for a vulcanoid. Mel smiled at him then immediately focused her attention on the Captain again.
“Well it looks like there’s some resistance to the colony now. Unknown forces have boarded three ships. One has been destroyed. The Halken relayed the distress calls to us but would not intervene as It would go against there total peace philosophy,” Brahms said as Mel found herself nodding.
“Do we have any information about the attackers at all?” Quinn asked.
“Nothing other than the distress calls relayed. I’m hoping the Halkens will be able to share more information with us when we arrive, although we are quite far away for now.” Brahms turned to face Mel. “Melanie, I need you to make the remaining warp tests your number one priority. I need the ship at maximum warp.”
“Yes Sir,” Mel replied. Brahms continued. “Horn and Quinn I want security tightened. Who ever did this may still be around and under no circumstances are they getting on board the Loki. You need to liase with Engineering as I believe there is still some structural repairs being carried out.” Dexter nodded.
“Janel, There may be some survivor’s. Possibly people may of ejected from the ships during the attacks or even made it down to the colony. Have sickbay ready.”
Gallen nodded. “Yes captain.” “ Harley will be able to assist you Janel, as my mother will be looking after Seleya,” Horn added. Janel looked relieved at this. She was still finding her feet in her new position.
Finally Brahms turned to Pharrell. “Dominic, research everything we have on the Halken and that area of space. Can you ensure your findings are cascaded to all senior staff.”
“Of course sir,” Pharrell replied. Brahms looked pensive for a little while before saying “Any comments anyone?”

As the senior staff began to file out of the observation lounge to start their alotted tasks, D'BrooNi stayed seated.
"There's something you want to see me about Lieutenant ?" Brahms asked.
"Yes Sir." the Chief Engineer began, "As you know, I'm still not through running the warp tests. I would be much happier if we can have them completed before reaching Thaines."
Brahms touched his comm badge ..
=^= Helm .. Time to arrival at Thaines World ? =^=
=^= At prsesnt speed, Fifty Six hours Seventeen minutes Captain =^= said Ensign Ure.
"Can you get the tests done inside two day's Melanie ?"
"With time to spare Captain, thankyou."
Melanie got up from her chair, Brahms doing likewise, the two Officer's left the lounge together and entered the Bridge. Brahms took his seat while D'BrooNi activated her Engineering station. She would be testing the warp engines upto, and above their nominal operating parameters, though in fact, the ship would not exceed her current speed of warp four until Melanie was fully satisfied with her results. The final test will be to run the engines at One Hundred Twenty percent capacity for a short time to record stresses through the hull and pylons holding the nacelles.

=^= Sickbay to Commander Horn =^=
=^= Horn =^= said Peter, seated next to the Captain, he raised an eyebrow in puzzlement ..
=^= Sir .. Could I see you in sickbay as soon as possible =^= said Dr Gallen a little nervously.
=^= I am, on my way Doctor =^= Horn replied, and with acknowledgement from the Captain, headed for the turbolift.
~~~~~~~~~~
"Sir." said D'BrooNi, "I'm ready to begin if you could release Helm directives to me."
"Ensign Ure .. Please take speed and course alterations from Lieutenant D'BrooNi for the duration of the test's."
"Aye Sir." said Sian, nodding to the Chief Engineer.
Melanie began her warp test's ..........
Peter sped into the nearest turbolift without looking back. "Sickbay," he ordered curtly and felt the turbolift car speed downwards towards sickbay. Without hesiation, he raced into sickbay, only to find Harley sitting on a biobed, cradling their infant daughter.
Fear gripped him as he approached them, thinking something may be terribly wrong with his wife. She had managed to carefully block her feelings from him, but now that he came closer, he could see her eyes were blotched from crying. "What is wrong?" he asked tentatively, as he now figured out that nothing was wrong with his wife, but more so with his daughter.
"She's terribly ill," Harley whispered as she allowed her husband to draw her into a hug, knowing that he didn't particularly like public display of personal emotion. "Doc Gallen isn't sure what to do."
Peter looked up at Gallen, gazing intently at her. "Tell me," he insisted, "can you treat her?"
Lieutenant D'BrooNi had been on the bridge running her tests for the past couple of hours .... Leaving the bridge to Pharell, Marcus had taken the opportunity to go down to Ten forward to grab a bite to eat. Pharell was busy, gathering data on the Rakhari, when comms informed him of a transmission from Unification.
"Put it through here Ensign." he told the Comms Officer.
The view on screen changed, to show Admiral Kasey, sat behind his desk with a noticable frown on his face ...
=^= Lieutenant .. Where is Captain Brahms ? =^=
=^= He's in Ten forward Admiral, Grabbing something to eat =^= Pharell said, wondering why he was offering an explaination as to the whereabouts of his Commanding Officer.
=^= I need to speak to him =^= Kasey said as if not hearing, or caring about why Brahms wasn't on the bridge.
=^= Yes Sir .. If you could give me a moment .. =^=
"Comms, transfer this to the Captain's ready room."
=^= Bridge to Captain =^=
Brahms placed his fork down and touched his comm-badge.
=^= Brahms =^=
=^= Sir. Admiral Kasey need's to speak to you, i've put him through in your office =^=
=^= Thankyou Lieutenant .. Tell the Admiral I'll be with him momentarily =^=
~~~~~~~~~~
As Marcus sat at his desk he could see the Admiral talking to someone off the screen. He waited until Kasey noticed him before speaking ..
=^= Admiral .. =^=
=^= Ahh Captain, we have had word from a long-haul freighter, they have spotted one of the hi-jacked colony ship's .. From what they can tell with limited sensors, she's dead in space, but other than that there's no more information .. I'm sending you the vessel's co-ordinates now ....... =^=
=^= Got them Sir .. You want us to take a look ? =^=
=^= Yes, but be careful Marcus, we have no way of knowing who or what may be waiting for you there =^=
=^= Thaines Admiral ? =^=
=^= The Halken are monitoring transmissions from Thaines, They can hold out until you get there i'm sure =^=
The screen went black, Brahms rose and entered the bridge ...
"Lieutenant." he said to his Chief Engineer, "How are the test's ?"
"We can run the final test now Captain." Melanie said, feeling quite proud she had the ship ready for when the Captain had returned.
"Good !!!." said Brahms turning away from D'BrooNi, "Helm .. I have sent co-ordinates to your station, lay in a course and prepare for warp !"
"Sir ....." Melanie began, but Brahms cut her off.
"Sorry about not giving you time for this Melanie but we have our order's .. I'm sure you will have the engines purring as usual."
"Helm .. Warp Eight point Five .. Lets go !!!"
"Sir." Sian touched her control lightly ...
With unimaginable power the Loki leapt forward ..........

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mel took a small step back as the Loki fired into warp. Feeling the acceleration in her feet, she silently cursed Unification. She and everyone else in Engineering would of much preferred to have not been rushed through all these tests. Although the chances of anything going wrong were significantly reduced now, it was the principal of it!
She felt the Loki reach warp 6 and quickly checked the Engineering station monitoring. Everything looked fine. It continued that way till they reached warp 8.5 leaving Melanie finally relieved and much less agitated about the situation. She continued monitoring for while until Pharrel handed her a PADD with his first wave of research on.
Thanking him and not seeing any reason to remain on the bridge further, Mel headed back to Engineering to read Pharrell’s report.

The Horn couple gazed at the CMO in disbelief; she didn't have the current treatment for the child's illness in stock. "How can it not be in stock," Peter demanded, holding his wife and child close, "are you such an idiot that you don't check your stocks before a ship departs it's dock?"
Harley gasped as she heard her husband rant; she'd never seen him this angry before. Looking over her shoulder, she saw Gallen's face gone pale, tears forming in her eyes. "Peter that's enough!" she said softly, "it isn't her fault, she's very new to her job and probably couldn't have known the medication isn't in stock."
She disentangled herself from the embrace. "Look at her, you're driving the poor woman to tears." She held the infant close to her chest, trying to feed the baby but she wouldn't take the offered nipple. "She won't feed," she sighed desperately, "and she's got a high fever."
Pleading, the couple looked at Gallen. "Can you replicate it from scratch?"
This time, hope flared in the young CMO's eyes, and she nodded. "I should be able to, but it may take a few days. I'll do whatever I can for your daughter, I promise."
Harley and Peter exchanged a worried glance. "You should go back to your post," the nurse then suggested, "it's no use for you to stick around here, worrying yourself to death."
Peter nodded, kissed wife and child goodbye and headed to the bridge. "Captain, a word please?" he whispered, approaching his CO. "My daughter is very ill. I'm capable of doing my duties but I would like to check in with sickbay from time to time.....Gallen has to replicate the medication from scratch, it is not in stock right now."
He grinded his teeth in anger as he spoke the words, his eyes reflecting the inner fury that he was experiencing, but fighting to keep under control. Link to Post - Back to Top Logged

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- "Sir." said Lieunenant Pharell, "I have picked up a ship on long range sensors."
"Can you identify it ?"
"Yes Sir, i've got her transponder code .. It is one of the ship's hijacked .. The Marco Polo .. But she seems to be adrift."
Brahms frowned, ' Why take a ship then leave it floating in space' he thought.
"Are there any lifesigns Lieutenant ?"
"Sorry Sir, I cant tell at this range .. But I am detecting debris around her though, unable to assertain if it's from the Marco or another vessel."
Brahms had stood, he was looking over his Operations Chief's shoulder at the readings when he noticed Commander Horn enter the bridge. He looked both worried and annoyed as he approached ...
"Captain. A word please." said Horn as he moved to one side for a modicum of privacy .. Horn's news shook Brahms, Selaya was unwell, her condition serious .. no wonder Peter was so stressed.
"The Doctor will do everything she can to get the medication synthesised Peter, i'm sure Selaya will recover." Brahms thought for a second or two as Horn just stared at his Captain, "If you feel you need to be relieved of your position I will arrange it, but in truth, with what's going on i'd like you on the bridge if possible."
Horn nodded silently, Brahms turned to Opps ..
"Lieutenant Pharell, Time to the Marco Polo ?" he asked.
"Three hours Fourteen minutes Sir."
"Peter." he said quietly, "We have got some time, get back down to sickbay and be with Harley and Selaya."
"Thankyou .... Captain." said Horn, but he seemed indecisive as to wether to go or stay ...
"Mr Larraq." said Brahms leaving his Executive Officer to think, "Begin scanning the ship as soon as you are able, I want all the information you can get before we approach her."
"Yes Sir." said Tauvo, concentrating on his readouts.
"Mr Dexter, ensure shields and weapons are fully operational and ready to be brought on-line .. Check with Lieutenant D'BrooNi, I don't want to come accross any unexpected power drains due to the test's we have been running."
The Sceurity Chief acknowledged the order and got to work.

=^= That's ok nurse, Inform her we are Three hours from one of the hijacked ship's and medical help may be needed when we arrive. Have sickbay ready =^=
=^= I will inform the Doctor now Sir =^=

“Trill Ginger tea,” Mel said to the replicator. Having spent 15 minutes sorting out random engineers upon her return she had finally managed to get into her office. She pulled the steaming cup from the replicator and inhaled the spicy scent deeply before crossing back to her desk and sitting down.
Placing the PADD Pharrel had given her next to her computer, she synchronised them together and brought the information up on the bigger display in front of her. Taking a sip of her tea, and then deciding it was far too hot, Mel placed it further away from her to cool as she started to read.
Pharrel had listed the key government members that they knew about. The Halkan’s tended to keep very much to themselves. Looking through the limited bio’s Mel took in the Halkan’s physical characteristics, unique markings on the forehead, just above the eyebrows. They tended to have fair hair and blue eyes.
“Deep blue eyes that you can get lost in. As blue as the oceans at Laguna bay on Trill,” Mel jumped as Leiko’s voice suddenly sounded in her head dreamily. “Their eyes are hypnotic.” Really, she shot back cheekily to her host and how would you know that? A very handsome face and the name Rajik flashed into her mind.
Laughing Mel agreed with her host to the beautiful blueness of the eyes and then focused her thoughts back on the report. She flicked through another couple of Bio’s and then froze. She was looking at the same face. Confused and fighting off more of Leiko’s memories of her tryst, Mel located the name. Amun Rajik, the third. “Grandson,” Leiko said in amazement. “Almost spitting image.”
Before Mel could comment further her thoughts were immediately back in the room when her communicator bleeped.
=^=D’BrooNi=^= She answered still looking in amazement at the familiar face in front of her.
=^=Lieutenant, Dexter. I have a few questions about the shield and weapon status. Are you okay to discuss them with me now =^=

Brahms too had been studying the data and images Ensign Dexter had provided .. 'Quinn did well to get even this much' he thought... It had dawned on him that even through three generations there was almost, if any at all, no change in the Halkan's features. 'In fact, i'd be hard pushed to place them in generation order' he was thinking, as, even on the massive viewscreen on the bridge, it looked for all the world that he was looking at three of the same image ...
"Forward view on screen." he said after a moment.
The view immediately changed to show the stricken Marco Polo. Still two hours away but even at this distance, everyone on the bridge could see the ship tumbling end over end, it's inertial damper's off-line.
"Sir." said Pharell who had been checking and double-checking his readout's, "Looking at the rate of the Marco' spin, i'm doubtful we could beam anyone onto her."
Brahms hadn't thought of that possibility ...
"Ensign Ure .. Could you dock a shuttle ?" he asked his Helm Officer.
"Captain." said Larraq, "Can't we stop the spin using tractor's or even rotate the Loki in sympathy ?"
"I dont want to risk disturbing anything onboard Tauvo, but it's something we can do once we've taken a look round inside."
During the short exchange, Sian had been thinking furiously, giving the question the time it deserved ..
"Docking will be extremely difficult Sir, but i'll get the team onboard." Ure said with a self-concious frown.

=^= Sir ? =^= Dexter replied, obviously puzzled, as the Executive Officer would normally lead any team leaving the Loki.
=^= Just be ready Ensign .. Out =^=
Brahms needed to ask Peter if, because of the situation with his daughter, he would be up to leading an away mission ..

Peter tapped Brahms on his shoulder. "Sir? I am right here...and I will be able to go on the away team. Seleya is stable for now, but Doc Gallen will call me the minute she worsens. I would like to apologize for this, but it seems that lately happiness is not something that I seem to have earned."
He gave his CO a sad look. "When do you want us to depart?"

Mel had finished talking with Dexter and was trying to appraise herself on where they were up too with the interior structural repairs but her symbiote was making it difficult by recalling memories of Leiko and the Halkan diplomat.
Melanie had always been amazing at some of the things Leiko had managed to get away with in her life. Pulling a weeklong affair with an alien right under her husbands nose was certainly risqué even for her though. Leiko merely laughed at her as she had that thought.
In a bid to stop the urge of bringing up the grandsons bio and blue eyes again, Mel set off in person to see how the groups of engineers all round the ship were doing. The decks where the original nascelle had been torn off were now almost fully rebuilt. It almost looked like the Loki hadn’t been ripped apart now.
Waiting for a turbo lift Mel smiled as she saw one of her favourite security officer’s approach. “Brooks. How have you been?”
“Not bad.” he replied leaning back against the wall as they waited. “How are you and that little monkey of a brother? Had me in stitches at your party.”
“Tay’s fine. He wasn’t too happy going back to Unification early. He was having too much fun on the bridge. The Captain let him loose up there,” she grinned at the memory and at the look on Brooks face. The turbo lift arrived, doors hissing open. Brooks chivalrously put a hand out letting her enter first.
“Engineering,” she said. “Bridge,” Brooks replied. Mel raised her eyebrow, that wasn’t normally his territory.
“Dexter’s summoned me,” He said catching her curiosity. “The FO is putting together an away team.”
“Be careful,” Mel said remembering the Husnock. “Your not coming?” Brooks asked

On the Loki's viewscreen, the Marco Polo was rotating slowly in a clockwise direction ..
"Helm .. Drop from warp .. Bring us to a full stop Ten thousand kilometres fron the Marco." said Brahms.
"Yes Sir." Ensign Ure replied and began slowing the ship.
"I'm scanning the vessel Sir." said Larraq, "There seem's to be a 'lot' of unstable systems over there."
=^= Bridge to Lieutenant D'BrooNi .. Report to the Bridge please =^= said Commander Horn.
=^= Acknowledged =^= Mel replied then ordered the change in destination to the turbo-lift.
"Seem's you may well be coming along on the away mission after all." said Brooks smiling, and for a second, Mel felt that strange flutter of anticipation.
"Sir .. Along with the engineering instabilities the artificial gravity is fluctuating but life support is stable." Larraq said from his station.
"Ok .. Helm, move us in to One thousand kilometres and hold position."
The Loki glided forward until she reached the designated distance and again halted.
=^= Brahms to Shutlebay =^=
=^= Main shuttlebay .. Ensign Fl'or Sir =^=
=^= Have a shuttle made ready for launch .. A team will be there shortly =^=
=^= Aye Sir =^=
"Peter, get you're team briefed and let me know when you are ready to leave." said Brahms.
Horn nodded .. Motioning toward the assembled team he headed toward the observation deck .
Marcus sat watching the massive vessel spinning slowly in space ..........

Mel walked onto the bridge closely followed by Brooks. She took in the sight of the spinning Marco Polo on the view screen. “Inertial dampers,” she muttered. Of the many, many star ship systems they were not her favourite, nor D’BrooNi’s!
Horn seemed to be talking to the captain. Mel looked around and saw Ure wave them over. Judging by the speed and the pattern of the spin she was going to be crawling in some Jefferies tubes and under consoles.
Looking down at Ure’s console, the ensign said to her, “Gravities not stable chief. This is going to be fun”
Mel shook her head and said darkly, “Hope you guys haven’t had lunch.”
Brooks leant down over her left shoulder and muttered, “I hope you’re joking.” His face looked a little pained. Mel fought the urge to laugh at him. The last time she had to fix a scenario like this it had been at the academy. She vividly remembered feeling ill through the whole experience.
“Well I’m okay,” Ure said looking relieved. Mel nodded as she brought up several screens of what they had managed to scan from the Loki and tryed to formulate the quickest way she could stop the spinning and fix the gravity. Taking a look at some of the other damaged systems she was in no doubt she would have to have a few teams of people over once they had ensured it was safe.
The Captain ordered them to move closer to the Marco. “Ermmm can the doc not give us a shot to help with our balance and stuff?” Brooks asked. “Make the experience less uncomfortable.”
Mel shrugged her shoulders, giving him a sympathetic smile; “I have no idea.” She didn’t have any formal medical training other than emergency CPR and basic first aid.
At that moment Horn decided to get things rolling, ushering them into the observation deck.

Absendmindedly, Peter preceded his awayteam onto the observation deck, while trying to make sense of the briefing information he'd just received. That and sickbay had sent him word that his daughter's condition hadn't changed. The poor infant girl was now hooked up to all kinds of machinery, and he barely saw his wife lately as she refused to leave their daughter's side.
Harley had to chase him from sickbay, yelling at him that he had a responsebility to the crew, as first officer, and that she'd tell him when he was needed in sickbay. It'd surprised him to see gentle Harley so fierce but he'd not wanted an argument and had meekly left sickbay.
Shaking his head in dismay, he peered over the edge of his PADD at the crew gathered before him. "All right people, let's get this show on the road!" he spoke up. "We're facing a battered ship out there. Security, your job is to make sure no harm comes to this away team. Engineering, see what you can do to salvage and repair that ship. Medical, search for survivors and have them beamed straight to sickbay."
He scrolled down his list. "I will join the security detail and will try to establish what exactly has happened to this ship. Any questions?" He picked up the phaser rifle that lay on the table before him and gave it a quick inspection with a look of sheer dismay on his face. He liked being a security officer, but he didn't much favour the atillery involved. He preferred honest hand-to-hand combat over using any weapons beyond a simple blade. Aside from that he was also an excellent archer, but rifles had never belonged to his skills.

Horn dismissed them, giving them a little time to gather what items they needed. Mel headed straight to Engineering to grab some tools and she got a phaser. She had never been one for taking weapons in the past, leaving it to security but the Husnock incident had changed all that.
Heading into the shuttle bay, Mel found Ure already going through pre-flight. She sat down next to her, pulling up a schematic of the Marco. “I need to reset the inertial dampening field base to get the dampeners to reactivate but that’s going to be difficult with the gravity fluxing. So if you can dock the shuttle here,” she pointed to the port side of the Marco, “I can access the gravity generator manually via Jefferies j7-12.”
Ure nodded. “I’ll do my best chief.” Mel nodded, sympathetically. Her own piloting skills were minimal but she couldn’t imagine doing what Ure was about to do.
“Well try to get to the closest docking port as you can. The transporters won't be working and the turbo lifts won’t be safe with the gravity fluxing so the sooner I can get too it the easier it’s going to be to move around,” She replied.
“I’m onboard with anything that makes the whole moving experience easier,” Mel jumped as Brooks suddenly appeared behind her. She smiled at him; Dexter and another security officer who wandered in and took seats. Mel moved to the back of the shuttle, deciding the FO would probably want to take the view screen seat.
“Any luck with sickbay?” she asked now behind Brooks. He nodded.
“They gave me a shot of Zalusex. Apparently it helps keep your balance in check. Doc’s sending the medic who’s coming, with some extra for all of us.” He said looking a lot happier.
“Gallen’s not coming?” Mel asked.
“Nope. I didn’t get to see her. She’s working on something very important.” He replied. Mel opened her mouth ready to voice she hoped nothing was wrong when the FO arrived, along with a Benzite medical officer Mel didn’t know.
Horn, looked like he had a lot on his mind, as he started speaking with Ure, who was finished up the pre-flight. The medic moved towards Mel and the others. “Ensign Gathuit,” he said in way of introduction. “I need to give you all a shot before we set off.” His voice sounded raspy with his respiration device.
Mel shuddered as she heard the hiss of the hyper spray as Gathuit started with Dexter. “Come on its just a little shot,” Brooks wound her up, knowing her dislike for anything sickbay related. Dexter chuckled, which earned him a “look” from Mel as the Benzite injected his other colleague, then moved towards her.
She rolled her sleeve up and held her arm out behind her so not to look, feeling the cold pressure on her skin. Closing her eyes briefly till it subsided, she then heard Brooks laughing again followed by “There, there all done,” Gathuit finally injected Ure and Horn before taking his seat. The engines suddenly roared into life and Horn pressed his comm. badge.

=^= Horn to Brahms .. Away team ready to embark =^=
=^= Launch now Commander =^= replied Brahms.
At Horn's command, Ensign Fl'or activated the massive hanger-bay door .. Almost the full length of the bay it rose slowly, revealing open space beyond .. A force-field was all that stood between them and space but parted as the shuttle began to move forward out of the bay ...
On the bridge Brahms watched as the shuttle came into view and closed on the Marco Polo .. Stopping only a few metres from her hull, the shuttle began to slowly match the giant vessel's roataion ...
~~~~~~~~~~
Ensig Ure was taking her time .. This was going to be the one docking she didn't want to mess up ! .. Because the team were having to use a service shuttle with the docking ring and hatch set into the rear bulkhead, Sian had to turn the shuttle away from the Polo and reverse in .. She, and the rest of the crew tried not to notice the Loki and surrounding space spinning slowly outside the window as Ure concentrated on her control's ...
"Twenty metres." informed Horn ...
"Ten metres." he counted down ...
"Five metres."
"Slowing approach." said Ure.
"Two metres .. Shuttle speed dropping." confirmed Horn.
Everyone else was silent, not wanting to distract Sian ... Second's later there was a dull thud then a groan of metal as the shuttle settled ..
"Docking complete .. Seal secure." informed the computer.
Ure powered down the engines and sighed with obvious relief.
=^= Horn to Loki .. We have docked with the Marco Polo =^=
=^= Proceed when ready Commander =^= sain Brahms.
"Ok .. Let's go." said Horn and everyone began picking up their individual equiptment.
Sian touched the control on her panel that activated the hatch and give the away-team access to the stricken ship ..........
Mel stepped through to the hatch then immediately felt herself float up somewhat as the unstable gravity hit. Turning slightly to face Horn, she felt D’BrooNi quiver at the unfamiliar motion. Despite the shot earlier, her body still felt uncomfortable with this experience.
“Sir, permission to proceed directly to the gravity generator,” she said.
If the vulcanoid was suffering also, he did not show it. “Agreed lieutenant, Brooks and Anders go with D’BrooNi. Quinn, Ure and Gathuit with me. We will search this deck. Stay in contact.”
“Aye sir,” everyone chorused. Horn and his party turned and half walked, half floated down the corridor as Mel lead the two officers down the other direction to a Jefferies intersection.
“Can you hold this please,” she handed her toolkit to Anders and she fought to get out the tool she needed and not let the rest float away. Then at that moment the gravity decided to turn back to norm, the tools and all 3 officers slumped to the floor . . . .
Horn dusted himself off quickly then extended an arm to help the surprised looking security chief back up. Now able to walk again, he headed to the nearest console. “Computer, please display the last bridge log, security code Starfleet Horn beta gamma beta 12945 alpha.” An image of Captain Ann Lockward appeared.
“This is the Starfleet colonist ship the Marco Polo, on route to Haines. This is a distress call. We have encountered a hostile ship. It has somehow managed to disable several systems including weapons and sensors. We do however still have full life support. All communication attempts have been ignored. They are now boarding the ship. Security teams are having no success. They report it’s almost like these beings are hypnotising them into standing down. We will continue in our attempt to hold the ship but we are as of yet unsure of these beings intentions. Please send help immediately, there are over 4000 colonists on board.”
Horn raised an eyebrow upon digesting this information, and then instructed the computer to carry out a full life sign scan of the ship. The spinning and damage sustained had made this difficult for the Loki to carry out earlier. The computer flashed through several schematics before settling on one showing Jeffries tubes.
“Our team,” Dexter pointed. Several more screens flashed though before Dexter’s eyes opened wide. There was one person on the observation deck.
Mel cursed softly in Trill as she hit her head on the side of the Jeffries tube. The gravity had suddenly disappeared again. In her surprise she had lost hold of her hyper spanner. Luckily Anders ahead of her managed to catch it.
“Tell me we are nearly there,” he grumbled as he gently sent it floating back to her. It felt like they had been trying for hours to get through the tubes with the unstable gravity. D’BrooNi started stirring again inside her, making Mel stop and force herself to take some deep breaths to try combating the nausea.
“You ok?” Brooks asked looking concerned.
“Trill symbiotes are not designed for weightlessness,” she muttered as she managed to push herself forwards to the next doors in the tube. She activated the spanner, concentrating on desealing the doors rather than D’BrooNi’s discomfort. Eventually the doors sprung open with a low popping noise. Brooks grabbed hold of one side, while Mel and Anders grabbed the others. The gravity came back on again, all three officers hitting the floor with a thud.
“Ouch,” Mel groaned as she landed on the spanner. Brooks stood, and then pulled her up. Mel secured the spanner in her belt. Anders grabbed the door again. “This should at least be easier now.” He flashed the smallest of smiles as Mel and Brooks grabbed the other side and pulled.
Smiling Mel found herself staring at the generator. Anders and Brooks moved forward and secured the room. Mel headed straight to it whipping her tricorder out. The field base was only 2 points out this wouldn’t take long.
=^=Brooks to Horn. We are at the gravity generator. D’BrooNi’s working on it now. =^=
=^=Acknowledged. Scans indicate there is one survivor on board. We need those turbo lifts operational=^=
Dexter was pacing outside the nearest turbo lift when Horns communicator bleeped again, this time D’BrooNi.
=^= Sir Gravity is restored. You can proceed to the turbo lifts now =^=
The away team had been aboard the Marco Polo for only thirty five minutes, but it seemed 'much' longer from where Marcus was sitting. He was itching for some word as to how they were doing over there.. He'd had helm scan the surrounding reagon of space for other vessels but the two ship's were completely alone ...
"Sir." said Larraq, "The ship's gravity has been stablized .. I assume they will attempt to halt the rotation next."
'Sooner the better' thought Brahms, even though the gentle spin was having a soothing effect he'd be happier without it.
"Comms .. Open a channel." said Brahms.
"Channel open Sir .. Audio only." the young comms Officer confirmed.
=^= Lieutenant D'BrooNi .. When will you be able to halt the spin ? =^= Brahms asked.
=^= We're heading toward main engineering now Captain =^= Mel replied.
=^= Very well .. Loki out =^=
Marcus had to stop himself from druming his finger's on the arm of his chair .. He would just have to wait while the away team did their jobs .. He almost ordered yet another scan of surrounding space, but thought better of it ..
This is the largest of the six ship's sent to Haines, it held almost Four thousand souls, only several hundred were destined to stay on the surface, the rest, Engineer's, Medical, Agricultural personnel were going to be leaving once the colony was settled .. Where the hell had everyone gone .. More to the point, why was there one person left onboard ?
Peter strolled around the Marc O'Polo, paining his memory on what he was about to do or where he had been about to go. He had been working on something and then he'd gotten distracted, and when he wanted to return to work he'd forgotten what he was doing.
The Vulcan shook his head in dismay, now was not the time to become forgetful. "Horn to D'BrooNi...I need your assistance. Would you remember what I told you what I was about to do? I .... seem to have forgotten...."
<D'BrooNi>
The gigantic but majestic Rakhari vessel elegantly slid through space without so much as an external or internal sound. It's sleek hull design made for economic fuel consumption, it's nacelles glowing bright purple against the velvet of the cosmos and it's silver hull.
Aboard it, the Rakharans busied themselves with keeping the ship running at peak efficiency, but on the bridge, a few concerned officers exchanged worried glances.
"They've found the ship captain," a young female Rakharan announced, wincing as she expected to be struck for her insolence and incompetence.
"What!" Captain Rahki raged, raising her hand towards the youngling, "who have found it!"
"The human vessel," young crewman Ikasha whimpered, "but we'll be in firing range soon. I'm activating our cloak, so they won't know we're approaching."
Rahki smiled and nodded, then grabbed a young male from the deck and hurled him towards the tactical station. "Your punishment is over youngling," she snapped at the inferior male. Males were so stupid, they couldn't do anything right. "Show me your worth, and keep an eye on that ship. Fire if they make any suspicious moves...but do NOT destroy them understood?"
"Yes Rahki," the young male answered, boldly looking at the older female. She was the leader of this pack, her fur silvering with age, and she had earned her rank through loyalty and dedication.
Soon, the Wahiri would approach the crippled ship as well as the silvery vessel that was now stationary near it.
Re: New World - Mission 004 ... « Reply #26 on Jun 8, 2006, 2:29pm »
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Mel was laid under a console surrounded by isolinear chips. She still felt awful and her symbiote kept randomly spasming inside her. D’BrooNi was most unsettled.
“Brooks/ Anders? Could one of you pass me that spanner again,” she said sweetly to be answered by silence. Moving her upper body out slightly she could see both officers pacing at opposite ends of engineering.
Deciding as she was half up now, she would break for a couple of minutes and get her head back, Isolinear chips were everywhere and this job was proving more fiddly than she ever remembered back at the academy. Mel stretched for a while as Brooks decided to walk back to her position. He looked confused.
“Mel. What are we doing?” he asked in a faint voice.
She raised her eyebrow at him wondering if he was joking around. On her other side Anders decided to appear. He looked as perplexed as Brooks. Mel was beginning to get an uncomfortable feeling.
“I, ermmm not sure,” Anders mumbled. “Forgotten. Why am I in engineering?”
Her eyes wide in worry now the two of them were acting strange, Mel moved closer to look at Brooks. His eyes were wide, pupils dilated. He also looked pale. Mel raised her hand to her comm. badge to alert Horn and the doctor. Something wasn’t right here. However Horn bet her too it . . .
"Horn to D'BrooNi...I need your assistance. Would you remember what I told you what I was about to do? I.... Seem to have forgotten...."
Something was definitely not right. Brooks and Anders stared back at her blankly as she said nervously, “You were making your way to the survivor on the observation deck sir.” Horn muttered something back but Mel couldn’t make it out as D’BrooNi chose that moment to spasm again causing Mel to step back in pain. What was wrong with her symbiote?
“Sir could you repeat that please?”
Sian wandered down a corridor which was in no way familiar to her.
“Where am I and what on earth am I supposed to be doing” she asked out loud to fill the huge silence all around her.
“Well Ensign I wish I could answer that.” Sian spun on her heels crouching into a defensive position but straightened almost right away as she recognised the Chief of Security.
“Commander, thank heavens! Where are we, what are we doing here?” Sian moved to stand beside him.
“As I said I wish I could answer that. Let’s see if we can get some answers.” Peter slapped his comm. badge “D’BrooNi”
“Sir, I said could you repeat that?”
“I know, sorry, I just bumped into Ensign Ure and she seems to be in the same difficulty as myself. I cannot remember what I am supposed to be doing or where I was going?” Peter rubbed his hand over his face and stared at Sian.
“Me neither.” she whispered turning pale.
“Sir,” DeBrooNi’s voice sounded shaken over the comm. “Brooks and Anders are in the same condition and there is definitely something wrong with my symbiote. What should we do?”
“Where are you?”
Engineering
“Ok. Stay where you are at present. We will try to get to you. I take it Chief that you do know what we here for?”
Peter waited for an answer but when none came he started back the way he had come at a run with a very shaken Ensign Ure following close behind.
Peter took the young woman's hand and dragged her down the corridor, following his tricorder's readings. Whatever was happening, it was affecting them all. "D'BrooNi, keep open contact," he ordered, "keep talking to us....I keep forgetting what I was doing, and I am having the strongest thoughts about staying where I am and just forget about everything."
He paused, giving Ure a startled look. "It is almost as though we are supposed to be at peace here. I am seeing dead bodies, but the faces are all a mask of tranquility...."
Alarmed, he picked up his pace, pulling Ure with him. "Stay with me," he ordered, "and keep talking. We must find out what happened here. Where is our medic! Have him or her, whoever it was, work on a cure for this!"
"D'BrooNi, keep open contact," he ordered, "keep talking to us....I keep forgetting what I was doing, and I am having the strongest thoughts about staying where I am and just forget about everything."
“Aye sir,” Mel said breathing easier now as D’BrooNi subsided the shuddering inside her again. Brooks moved forward putting his arm on her shoulder.
“I know I don’t know what’s happening but I’m in no doubt you should see the doctor,” he said concerned. Anders still looking blank seemed to nod in enthusiastic agreement.
“I’m alright again for the moment but thank you and yes I will get it looked at,” Mel said. Despite her irrational feelings on doctors and medical tests, as a Trill, her symbiote was the single most important thing. She was sworn to protect it at all costs.
Picking up her tricorder Mel abandoned the console she had been working on and said into the now open link, “I’m initiating some more intricate scans. Whatever is affecting us must be something not picked up in any of the preliminary ones taken before we boarded.”
Her attention was on the flashing screens on the piece equipment; Mel was unsure for how long it was adverted but eventually noticed that Anders and Brooks had both started to move away from her. “Where are you going?” she asked. Trying to keep one eye on the tricorder re-outs and another on them.
“I don’t know,” came the replies simultaneously. “What are we doing?” Brooks added. Mel gulped. She walked towards them, “We have to stay together right now okay. Just please stay where you are.” This immediately stopped in front of her, saying nothing more. Mel was starting to feel more and more nervous.
“Sir/ Ure errrrm are you still okay? You are making your way to Engineering?” Mel asked as her tricorder bleeped to show it had picked nothing up.
Brahms was still sat staring at the view screen, when an ensign manning ops gasped for a moment.
“Ensign?” Brahms asked hearing the noise.
“I thought for a moment I saw what could have been another ship or body heading towards us but I seem to be incorrect sir,” the poor officer felt rather silly admitting this to the captain but one second something had been on the monitor just entering the system and the next nothing.
"Sir/ Ure errrrm are you still okay? You are making your way to Engineering?"
"Ure here. Yes we’re okay. But we had to stop as we couldn’t remember where we were going."
Peter and Sian had come to a stop, both out of breath from their wild dash down the corridor.
"Mel, you have to keep talking. Tell us where we are going." Peter leant against the wall trying to catch his breath. “If you don’t we will just forget and stop where we are. Keep talking.”
“Ok Sir. You‘re on your way to engineering. You should know that Anders and Brooks are in the same condition. What about the others, Quinn and Gathuit, how are they doing?”
“I assume we all split up but so far I’ve only found Sian. Let us get back to engineering and then we’ll try and contact the others. Keep talking Mel, keep talking.” Peter consulted the tricorder again, grabbed Sian’s hand and started of in the direction of engineering with the sound of Mel’s voice ringing in their ears.
ooc: uhm ure? would you mind not writing text for Peter? I really prefer to write him myself my tnx.
Peter and Ure dashed down another few corridors, hoping to get closer to engineering, but they seemed to get horribly lost instead. "Where is engineering?" he finally asked, both over communicator as well as in Ure's direction, "I do not seem to remember where engineering is, and this tricorder is not helping. it is giving us false directions."
The tricorder, however, was functioning perfectly fine, but as their memory was getting affected, so was their judgement and sense of direction.
~~ meanwhile ~~
Smoothly and stealthily, the Wahiri slid through space, approaching the Loki at fast speed. Rahki ordered the male youngling to fire a warningshot across the human ship's bow, but also to remain cloak.
"We're going to play them a bit. Keep changing position around them and make sure you do not damage them!" Rahki glared down at the youngling.
"Yes Rahki," he replied obediently, as he targeted his weapons. They were sophisticated weapons, that could easily destroy the ship if so desired. He fired a few warning shots, each time changing position.
"Hail them," Rahki finally ordered, after growing tired of the cat and mouse game. When a male appeared on the screen, her gaze hardened. "Get me the most senior ranking female available," she snapped, her voice as sharp as the edge of a knife, "I will not deal with males."
Mel had spent the last 10 minutes talking Horn and Ure through how to get to Engineering. Luckily she knew the model of the Marco polo and could direct them from memory of the schematics, leaving her free to keep scanning with her tricorder. Except it wasn't bringing up anything.
Horn and Ure arrived looking as pale and wide-eyed as Brooks and Anders. “Mel what’s happening? What are we doing?” Ure asked gently. D’BrooNi decided to take that moment to spasm inside her again almost knocking her off balance. Brooks grabbed her round the waist steadying her.
Breathing deeply, trying to calm her symbiote again, Mel looked at Brooks in thanks and motioned them all to a console. “You got separated from Quinn and Gathuit,” she pointed at their life signs on the monitor, “when you were going to check on the survivor,” Mel trailed off as she realised that person was not on the observational deck anymore.
=^=Loki to away team. An unidentified cloaked ship has entered the quadrant. It is currently firing upon us. It may turn its attentions to you. =^=
Horn acknowledged the communication and appraised the Loki on the condition of the away team. Mel hoped with the new development they weren’t going to forget everything too soon.
<Brahms / Horn if you want to put in your speech in.>
While the FO was talking to the Loki, Mel instructed the computer to locate all life forms onboard the Marco polo. “The survivors conscious and moving,” Mel said to Ure and Brooks stood round her. The computer whizzed through screens and screens. Ure gasped as she suddenly pointed, “Look.” Mel followed her finger. The survivor was right outside engineering.
“They followed you,” Mel said clutching her stomach as D’BrooNi thrashed around again and watching the figure move on the monitor. Brooks swung round, phaser out, Anders following suit as the main door to engineering hissed open . . . . .
Marcus studied the viewscreen intently ..
"Any sign's of the anomaly you saw earlier Ensign ?." he asked the conn officer.
"Nothing more Sir ... But ... Just for a second there then it was gone again ..."
Doctor Gallen had entered the bridge and was stood by the Captain's chair.
Brahms finally noticed her and turned.
"Captain, I need to speak to you.. It's Commander Horn's daughter, Seleya, her condition has worsened. I have determined she has Valtes Syndrome." Brahms frowned, trying without any luck to recall the illness as Janel continued, "It's very rare, in some cases fatal, and almost never seen in children."
"Is there anything you can do Doctor ?." he asked.
"I can't do more than keep her comfortable, she's going to get worse .. I've contacted the Vulcan Homeworld at Harley's request, they have a science vessel fairly close-by .. They will rendezvous with us and transfer Seleya and Harley to their ship .. They can do more for her there Captain. We need to get her father back here too." Gallen finished, alomst distraught.
"Tell Harley I will have Peter back here and down to sickbay as soon as possible." Brahms reassured her.
"I will, Thankyou Captain." said Gallen turning toward the turbo-lift.
~~~~~~~~~~
He couldn't rush the away-team, his other option would be to have Horn bring the shuttle back before the spin was halted as they still couldn't use the transporter's ..
An alarm sounded on the Opps Officer's console ..
"Sir .. We have just been fired on, no hit, the shot passed outside the port nacelle."
"Where from .. Can you see it ?." said Brahms sitting bolt upright.
"Nothing Sir, it 'has' to be a cloaked vessel ... Another shot Sir !!."
"Captain." said Larraq from the science station, "The energy in that last shot was far greater than we have encountered before .. A direct hit would penetrate our shield's easily and do conciderable damage .."
"Raise the shield's anyway ... RED ALERT ... Scan the area, try to find what or who is doing that shooting !."
Yet another energy bolt flashed past the Loki, this time from below and very close to the Marco Polo.
' They're playing with us or warning us off .. They're almost ignoring the Polo' thought Brahms.
"Captain, we are being hailed.." said comms. The bridge was silent ...
Brahms stood and nodded to comm's to open the channel.
He was looking at someone, from what he could see they were almost feline in appearance, but he didn't have time to study ...
"What is the mea ..... "
"Get me the most senior ranking female." The alien interupted, her voice sharp as a well honed blade, "I will not deal with males !!! "
"I am Captain Marc ..... "
The screen changed back to a view of space !
"Get that ship back !" said Brahms, a little annoyed at being cut-off.
"No response Sir .. But they can hear us."
Brahms was thinking quickly ...
"Open a channel to the Marco Polo." Brahms ordered .. A second later the comms Officer nodded.
=^= Commander D'BrooNi .. How soon before you have that ship stablised ? =^=
=^= We are in engineering now Sir .. But something is very wrong over here =^=
=^= Explain =^=
=^= Everyone seem's to keep forgetting what we are over here for Sir .. Communication with Commander Horn was sporadic for a time, Ensign Ure is with him and they were heading for the observation deck, there was some trouble up there. Most of the away team is now in engineering, but both Dexter and Gathuit are showing as on the observation deck... Sir, There may be someone else on-board =^=
Brahms frowned deeply at this piece of information ..
=^= Mel. A situation has arose, I need to have both Commander Horn and yourself back on the Loki as soon as possible =^=
=^= I'm working on stablizing the Marco's spin now Captain .. I will get back to you as soon as i can. =^=
The channel closed, but just before it cut off Brahms could sware he heard the sound of door's opening .... ' What the hell is happening over there ' Brahms thought.
He looked out at the slowly rotating Marco Polo and wondered just when the alien's patience would run out !!! ..........
Captain Marcus Brahms. Commanding Officer ...

The doors opened to reveal a furry looking being. It looked catlike. It walked forward not giving the men a second glance but settled its attention on Mel and Ure. “Who are you?” Ure said.
“That is not your concern,” it replied in a low voice. “You won’t be needing them,” she indicated the security details phasers and too Mel’s horror all the men lowered their phasers. They just stood there blankly.
“This ship is my bounty now and you will continue repairing it. I do not understand how you are fighting the Maxuto,” it continued as it stepped forward to Mel. D’BrooNi was thrashing more and more. Looking over at Ure showed her also staring blankly. She was on her own now.
“I don’t know what Maxuto is so I don’t know what to tell you,” Mel said nervously.
The being actually laughed at her. “It is power. Observe.” Brooks raised his phaser again but this time turned it and pointed it to his leg. His face emotionless, he shot himself.
“No,” Mel gasped trying to move to him but the pain from D’BrooNi’s movements stopping her. Brooks fell in a loud thud. A quick look at all her other teammates showed them as emotionless as Brooks had been. None of them moved.
“You’re doing this,” Mel stated, it dawning on her. “Controlling them. Making them confused.”
“What they were doing was not in my interests and besides Men should be controlled. Stupid beings,” it ranted. “Now you will continue to fix the ship.”
“No,” Mel said as sternly as she could. “You will return my party to normal.” It laughed again, louder this time.
“Perhaps I shall make them all shoot themselves then,” It mused evilly. Mel swallowed in panic, slowly moving to grab her phaser from her belt.
“I’m not sure if that’s stupidity or courage. Perhaps not all females in your race are worthless” the being said noticing her move, “however that will not help you now. The Maxuto is more powerful upon closer direction. I will get my way,” the cat being moved further towards Mel who ended up staggering back. D’BrooNi now felt like it could rip apart from her body. She screamed in pain, the phaser dropping from her hand.
The cat being was right in front of her now, looking like it was concentrating hard. Mel felt her legs buckle underneath her from the pain. Then there was a familiar sound. A phaser beam hit the cat being in the side, knocking it to the floor beside Mel. The pain subsided. Mel immediately sought out her symbiote with her mind. It was rattled but no longer in pain. She was suddenly so relieved, even more so when Brooks limped over and stood over her, phaser in his hand.
“You ok?” he asked.
“But how? You were all under its Maxuto,” Mel said sitting up slowly and noticing Anders, Horn and Ure suddenly looking more alert.
“It must of lost its hold on me, when it shot me,” Brooks replied wincing as he grabbed Mel’s tricorder from earlier off the floor and ran it over the cat being.
“And it lost its control over us when it was shot,” Horn added. “I am myself again.”
“Me too,” Ure said as Anders nodded.
“Its Maxuto must have been what was affecting D’BrooNi,” Mel mused.
“But not in the way it wanted it too,” Ure added.
“It must affect other races differently,” Ure hypothesised.
=^=Dexter to away team. Gathuit and I were knocked unconscious. The survivor is hostile and has strange abilities. =^=
=^=We are aware. It is with us now. Unconscious=^= Anders spoke up.
Mel then spoke into the open con, =^= Quinn can you and the doctor get down to Engineering. We have some injuries. =^= She looked at Brooks leg concerned.
=^=Acknowledged we are on the way. =^=
“Its just a light graze. Enough to knock me back to my senses. Stupid creature should have checked I put it on a higher setting,” Brooks nudged Anders. “Taken far worse than this in training scenario’s right?” he grinned. “Men are stupid indeed.”
